Magglio scratched from Tigers lineup

By Jason Beck / MLB.com

06/08/10 8:35 PM ET

CHICAGO -- Tigers right fielder Magglio Ordonez was scratched from Tuesday's series opener against the White Sox, his old club, with left oblique soreness, taking out a key component of what has already been a struggling Detroit offense.

Ordonez was in Tuesday's original lineup batting in his usual third spot, but was a late change. Ryan Raburn replaced him in the lineup and started in left field, shifting rookie Brennan Boesch over to right.

It marks the first real injury concern of the year for the 36-year-old Ordonez, who played in 52 of the Tigers' first 54 games this year. He did not play Saturday night at Kansas City, but that was a routine day off. For now, he's considered day-to-day.

Ordonez has enjoyed a resurgence at the plate this season, in terms of extra-base power and pure hitting alike. Though he batted .310 last year, he needed a torrid September to get there, and had a heavy dose of opposite-field singles in the bunch. He has pulled the ball more often this year on his way to a .312 average, and his eight home runs are one off his total from all of 2009. He has driven in 41 runs.
