Ok, so you have your Spring Training tickets and are waiting for the Tigers first pitch of Spring Training. What next? How about joining the Tigers players and coaches on the golf course as they raise money for local youth sports organizations? Before they throw out their first pitch for the 2010 Spring Training season, the Detroit Tigers will tee it up for charity on the golf course March 1 at The Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland for the 15th Annual Major League Scramble. Several Detroit Tigers players, coaches and alumni will participate in the event to kick off the Spring Training season in Polk County. Every foursome will be joined by a member of the team or coaching staff or other sports celebrity. The charity event is traditionally held the Monday before the Tigers first game of the Spring Training season. This year, the Major League Scramble has a new venue with the Cleveland Heights Golf Course serving as the host. Several members of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame will also join the Detroit Tigers to raise money for local youth sports organizations. During the Major League Scramble, teams of four players are joined by a Detroit Tiger player, coach or alumni or a member of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.

Foursomes and single registrations are available by calling Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing at 863-534-2500. The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with registration, followed lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Following the round of golf will be an awards reception and raffle including Detroit Tigers and Florida Sports Hall of Fame autographed memorabilia. Individual spots are available for $175 and a team of four is $600. Golfers attending the 2010 Major League Scramble will also receive a goody bag filled with Tigers memorabilia and a special gift commemorating the event. Prizes will be awarded to each member of the top three teams as well as the individual golfers who record the longest drives and the tee shots landing closest to the pin. There will also be a putting contest with a prize available for the winner.

The 2010 Detroit Tigers Spring Training season opens on Tuesday, March 2 with their traditional game against Florida Southern College at Joker Marchant Stadium at 1:00 p.m. To make reservations or receive more information for the 15th Annual Major League Scramble, call Polk County Sports Marketing at (863) 534-2500.

“It takes pitching, hitting and defense. Any two can win. All three make you unbeatable.”
