Report: Selig wants matchup of Series winner, Japanese champ
The Detroit News

Baseball's World Series winner would meet the champion of Japan's highest professional league in an event called the Global World Series, according to reports.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig has proposed to Nippon Professional Baseball officials that the Japanese and U.S. champions play each other, Reuters is reporting, attributing the information to the Nikkan Sports newspaper.

"Mr. Selig said he wants to realize the plan before his tenure ends," Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner Ryozo Kato told Nikkan Sports.

Selig will retire in 2012, according to the report.
