Oliver! is Carol Reed's musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. Basically an orphan kid ends up living with a bunch of pickpockets. As this was a musical it was full of songs that were rather annoying. The plot didn't seem particularly interesting and I'm not sure I'd want to read this book even though the only Dickens book I have read, Great Expectations, was pretty good.

This film won six Academy Awards including best picture. Over the years this choice has been criticized as much better films like the unnominated 2001: A Space Odyssey were released that year. This film is noteworthy as it is currently the only G-rated film to win best picture (the rating system had just come out a few years earlier).
