Tigers send Ryan to San Diego
Detroit acquires player to be named or cash for catcher

The Tigers found a taker for catcher Dusty Ryan, who was designated for assignment last week.

Ryan has been traded to the Padres for a player to be named or cash, the Tigers announced Monday.

The 25-year-old Ryan appeared in 27 games with the Tigers over the past two years, compiling a .257 (18-for-70) average, two homers and 11 RBIs.

Ryan split the '09 season between Detroit and Triple-A Toledo. He batted .257 (52-for-202) with 10 homers and 35 RBIs in 63 games with the Mud Hens, and .154 (4-for-26) with four RBIs in 12 games with the Tigers.

Knowing DD, he will want cash...... this is crazy lately. Instead of a player, the Tigers are normally taking cash.

Who'll back up Avila? Do we still have Laird?

That is the idea. They hope to have Laird mentor Avila with Robinzon Diaz as the 3rd in line, probably playing with Toledo until/unless needed.

LAIRD SHOULDN'T START! I'd prefer that he be the mentor type guy. But, we could have them go every other day or something like that so it's kind of even.
