Benches, bullpens clear after Pierzynski retired

By Jesse Temple / MLB.com

06/09/09 10:10 PM ET

CHICAGO -- The benches and bullpens cleared briefly during the bottom of the fourth inning between the White Sox and Tigers on Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

The contention stemmed from an at-bat between White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Tigers pitcher Dontrelle Willis. During the at-bat, Pierzynski took an 0-1 fastball near his head. One pitch later, Pierzynski grounded out softly to second base.

As Pierzynski walked back to the White Sox dugout, he appeared to say something to Willis, upset about the previous pitch.

Tigers catcher Gerald Laird then began jawing with Pierzynski near home plate, prompting both dugouts and bullpens to empty.

Nobody was ejected, and the game resumed minutes later.

I rather see them fight whistle

Or is that in hockey?

Wait; I forgot you can't fight in the new NHL

That is a no-no in Bettman's book
