Take that, pitch counts.

From Comerica Park

A last look back at the Jackson game - I know some of you like what Jim Leyland did on Thursday with Edwin Jackson's pitch count (132) and some of you worry about it - but I liked it and here's why.

You can only go by what you see. Jackson had struck out the side in the seventh, each third strike coming on a 98-mile an hour fastball.

And even the two-run double he gave up in the eighth was on another 98 mph heater. He was still strong, and because he was still strong, he deserved a chance to stay in the game long enough to win it.

Leyland said after the game that Jackson would have come out if the Rangers had taken the lead, but they never did.

To me, it was a great example of letting a pitcher pitch instead of fetting about some by-the-book pitch count.

Good for Jackson, good for Leyland.

To which your reply is. . . ?
