Tigers' tilt in Chicago rained out
No makeup date for game announced yet

By David Just / Special to MLB.com

05/06/09 10:40 PM ET

CHICAGO -- If history is any guide, Wednesday's rainout of the opener of a two-game set between the Tigers and White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field was a foregone conclusion.

It was the second postponed game of the year for the Tigers, with the first also coming against the White Sox on April 14. The two teams also had three games rained out in two days during their last series at U.S. Cellular on Sept. 12-13, 2008.

Forecasts initially showed a break in the rain Wednesday night, but none came in time to begin play. A makeup date has not yet been scheduled, and the teams already are scheduled to play a split doubleheader in Detroit on July 24.

Armando Galarraga (3-1) will pitch Thursday's regularly scheduled game against Mark Buehrle (4-0), and Zach Miner's start in the Tigers' rotation will be skipped. Justin Verlander will make his scheduled start Friday at Cleveland, and the rotation will continue as planned from then on.

Since no makeup date has been announced, fans are being asked to retain their tickets from the game for use at a later time.

Makeup game in Chicago
BECK'S BLOG

The Tigers' next series at Chicago will now be a five-game, four-day series against the White Sox. They'll make up their rainout from a few weeks ago on Monday, June 8 with a day-night doubleheader. First game is at 2:05 p.m. ET, with the night game at 8:11. It'll be interesting to see how they work in a starting pitcher for that game, since it's right in the middle of a two-week stretch without an off-day.
