| Wife of D-backs' Schoeneweis found dead Maricopa County Sheriff's office investigating cause of death
The wife of Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis was found dead Wednesday in their Fountain Hills, Ariz., home, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's office.
D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall confirmed the news.
Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was unresponsive when sheriff's deputies came to their home at 12:11 p.m. MST on Wednesday responding to a call made by the couple's 14-year-old daughter.
According to the release, Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis was found on the floor of the master bedroom. Lindsey Smith, spokesperson for the Sheriff's office said that there were no signs of foul play and while they are not ruling anything out, they are not treating it as a homicide at this point. More will be known once the medical examiner determines the cause of death.
Hall said that Schoeneweis had left the team in Florida to head home.
Schoeneweis was acquired by the D-backs from the Mets during the offseason. In 19 games, he has compiled a 2.53 ERA.

| Wife of D-Backs' Schoeneweis found dead
by Staci McCabe - May. 21, 2009 11:02 AM The Arizona Republic
The wife of Diamondbacks relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis was found dead Wednesday in the couple's Fountain Hills home, officials said.
Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was found unresponsive in the family's home when Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrived at 12:11 p.m.
Schoeneweis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office statement.
The couple's 14-year-old daughter told deputies she found her mother on the home's master bedroom floor, according to the statement.
An autopsy will be performed Friday to determine the cause of death, Ofie Mata of the Maricopa County Medical Examiners Office said in a telephone interview Thursday.
Lt. Brian Lee, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, said there were no signs of foul play. Investigators have not ruled out anything, he said.
Gabrielle originally was from the Dallas area.
In an interview with an Internet radio show, Gabrielle Schoeneweis said she and Scott met on a blind date arranged by their mutual hairdresser and were married a few months later.
The couple had four children.
Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said he heard the news 1 to 1 1/2 hours before the first game of a doubleheader against the Florida Marlins in Miami. Hinch then called a team meeting.
Diamondbacks General Manager Josh Byrnes said the team arranged a cab to the airport and a flight to Phoenix for Schoeneweis, even offering for pitcher Jon Garland, a close friend, to accompany him on the flight. Byrnes said Schoeneweis preferred to go alone.
"We're trying to support Scott as best we can," Byrnes said. "It seems like everyone in there (the clubhouse) was taking it pretty hard."
There is no word on funeral arrangements for Gabrielle Schoeneweis.

| Last Updated: December 01. 2009 2:17PM Court: Scott Schoeneweis' wife died from drug overdose Associated Press
Phoenix -- The wife of former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Scott Schoeneweis died from an overdose of cocaine and an anesthetic, lidocaine, an appellate court disclosed in a ruling released Tuesday.
The ruling also said an investigation revealed evidence that Gabrielle Schoeneweis' cocaine use "may have caused harm to another person." That person was not identified.
Gabrielle Schoeneweis was found dead on May 20 in the master bedroom of the couple's home in Fountain Hills, a Phoenix suburb.
A three-judge Court of Appeals panel disclosed the cause of death in a ruling on whether an autopsy report and other records on Gabrielle Schoeneweis' death must be disclosed under Arizona's public records law.
The Court of Appeals panel said further proceedings are needed to determine that based on public interest in any investigation into criminal conduct.
But the panel said its ruling disclosed the cause of death to provide guidance "in this and other cases" and because cause of death is a central fact not subject to consideration of whether privacy rights outweigh public interest for disclosure of public records.
An attorney for Schoeneweis argued in a lawsuit filed against state and Maricopa County officials that release of information on the cause of death would cause emotional suffering for the family.
Schoeneweis, a left-handed relief pitcher, spent three weeks on the bereavement list after his wife's death before returning to play on June 9. He gave up 15 earned runs in nine innings when he came back and was placed on the disabled list Aug. 11 because of depression. He returned to the team on Sept. 7.
He had signed a one-year contract with Arizona for 2009 and is now a free agent.
