| Humberto Sanchez released
The Yankees have released RHP Humberto Sanchez to create room on the 40-man roster for RHP Mark Melancon. It never really worked out for Sanchez, as he had Tommy John surgery after coming over from a trade from the Tigers and spent most of his time in the system rehabbing in Tampa.
Even this spring, he was sidelined with tightness in his forearm and went across to Minor League game without even pitching in a game. But the South Bronx product got to live his dream and pitched in a game at the old Yankee Stadium last September, with lots of family on hand.
As a whole, the Gary Sheffield deal hasn't worked out very well for the Yankees. Anthony Claggett got torched in his big league debut and Kevin Whelan hasn't made it up to the big leagues yet. | |
