Larish Leads Offense With 2 Home Runs;
Willis Records the Win Over Columbus

5/17/08

The Hens scored first in the top of the second as 1B Jeff Larish hit his first home run of the night. Toledo scored their second run in the top of fifth on a Clete Thomas single that scored Dane Sardinha from third. RF Brent Clevlen hit his sixth home run of the season in the top of the sixth.

The seventh inning featured the most offense for the Hens. LF Freddy Guzman tripled to score DH Timo Perez from second. 2B Michael Hollimon hit his ninth home run of the season to score Guzman. The offense didn’t end there as Larish hit his second home run of the game and his 14th of the season to make it five runs for the Hens in the seventh.

Going into the bottom of the eighth, Toledo held a comfortable 8-1 lead. The eighth and ninth innings for the Clippers featured two home runs in each inning. Back-to-back home runs by Alex Escobar and Vurendell de Caster in the eighth and home runs by Ray Olmendo and Tommy Murphy in the ninth showed signs of a Clipper come-back, but it wasn’t enough.

LHP Dontrelle Willis (1-1) made his third rehab start for the Mud Hens. Willis went six innings while only giving up one earned run off of five hits, four walks while striking out four as he picked up the win. LHP Ian OstundRHP Matt Rusch both worked in relief for Toledo. and RHP Garrett Mock (2-2) went six innings while giving up three earned runs off of six hits as he recorded the loss for the Clippers.

Trzesniak hit his second home run of the game in the sixth, Perez hit his second in the seventh, and Hollimon hit his second of the game in the eighth.

LHP Casey Fossum (2-0) made his second start of the season for the Hens. Fossum went seven innings while giving up zero runs off of three hits. RHP Francis Beltran and RHP Anastacio Martinez both worked in relief for Toledo. RHP Collin Balester (4-3) recorded the loss for Columbus.

Thomas Homers And Like Champions,
Hens Win 4-3 In Dramatic Fashion

5/19/08

After a long ten game road trip, the Hens returned to spacious Fifth Third Field in Toledo after slugging 31 home runs on the trip. The offense started slow, but regained its potency as the game wore on the Columbus bullpen.

RHP Jeremy Johnson (4-1) did his best to match Clippers' starter RHP Tyler Clippard by keeping Columbus off of the board through three. Despite Clippard's strong start, it was the Hens who almost struck first. With the bases loaded and two outs in the third, 3B Mike Hessman hit a deep fly ball over 400 feet to the deepest part of Fifth Third Field, but fell short as Columbus CF Tommy Murphy flagged it down to end the inning.

In the fourth, Jeremy Johnson gave up an RBI single to DH Alex Escobar to extend his hit streak top 14 games. With the score 1-0 in the fifth, Johnson gave up another RBI base knock that just squeezed through the infield to RF Kory Casto. Meanwhile, Clippard continued to cruise along for the Clippers by pitching his fifth scoreless inning. The Hammering Hens broke through the scoreless barrier in "traditional" fashion with a solo-home run by CF Clete Thomas in the sixth. Columbus answered in the seventh with another two out RBI single from Kory Casto off of RHP Yorman Bazardo to put the score 3-1.

The first place Hens did not need the long ball to carry them to a victory, rather just a bit of "small ball". Back-to-back doubles by 2B Michael Hollimon and CF Clete Thomas started the rally. Brent Clevlen's RBI single tied the game 3-3 with one out. With runners on first and third, 3B Mike Hessman scored from a throwing error forced by OF Timo Perez's grounder that was thrown away on a double play attempt.

Columbus RHP Chris Shroder (3-2) suffered the loss and Toledo reliever RHP Matt Rusch earned the win after pitching a scoreless inning. Hens closer Blaine Neal (15) earned the save, sending the Clippers down in order.

~News And Notes~

Road Round Trippers: The Hens racked up 31 home runs during their 10 game road trip. The team had at least one homer in each game and averaged an astonishing one home run per 11.4 at-bats (354/31). Michael Hollimon hit seven of his own during the trip and averaged a homer every 5 at-bats.

Division Dominating:
The Hens have been in fist place for 101 of the last 113 days dating back to last season. They have a 2.5 game lead over Louisville. They extend the lead over Columbus to 6.0 games.

Moon Shots: Toledo has a professional baseball leading 83 home runs. The next closest in the I.L. is Charlotte with 50. They have hit a homer in the last 16 games and in 42 of 46 games in 2008.

Clevlen Really Does Rock:
OF Brent Clevlen reached base with a single in the fourth inning. He now has reached base safely tied for an I.L. best 27 consecutive games.

Hens’ Home Runs Continue,
But Clippers Make Late Inning Comeback

5/20/08

The Hens got on the board in the bottom of the first after CF Clete Thomas’ RBI-double and 3B Erick Almonte’s RBI-single and seemed to settle in behind the pitching of RHP Chris Lambert.

Lambert went 5.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs while striking out seven. The Hens were able to build a 4-2 lead, helped in part by 1B Jeff Larish’s 15th home run of the season in the third inning. The lead did not last long though, RHP Anastacio Martinez came on in relief of Lambert and gave up a 2-run double to RF Kory Casto to tied the score up at four a piece.

RHP Preston Larrison came on in the eighth inning, using only one pitch to finish the eighth. The ninth inning brought trouble for Larrison and the Hens. After walking four, he gave up three earned runs, putting the Clippers up 7 - 4. 2B Michael Hollimon started a come back in the ninth with his 12 home run of the year, but it was not enough as the Mud Hens fell to the Clippers, 7-5.

Hen Nuggets

On Pace for Greatness: 3B Mike Hessman has hit 18 home runs so far this season. The International League record for the fastest to 20 home runs is held by Marcus Thames, a former Mud Hen, when he hit 20 home runs by June 8, 2004. He finished with 24 home runs in the season while playing with Toledo.

Home Run Parade: With 1B Jeff Larish’s home run in the third inning and 2B Michael Hollimon’s in the ninth, the Hens have hit home runs in 17 straight games dating back to May 4 vs. Rochester. Of the 17 games, ten of them were road games. The Hens have had 24 multi-home runs games this season.

Hot Hollimon: By going 2-5 in Tuesday’s game, 2B Michael Hollimon has extended his hitting streak to six games. He is hitting.346 (9-26) with 5 HR, 2B, 7 RBI, 7 Runs.

Leading Leather:Coming in to Tuesday’s game, the Mud Hens lead the IL with a .984 fielding percentage. They have only committed 27 errors in 1,736 total chances.

Walk the Line: Through RHP Chris Lambert’s first five games started, he gave up 15 walks which led the IL. In his last four outings, Lambert has only walked five.

What a Rusch -- Hens Come Back From a Six Run Defecit To Win 7-6
5/22/08

It was an uphill battle from the start for the Hens. 1B Kevin Barker hit a grand slam well over the right field wall to put the Bats up 4-0 in the top of the first. The home run was Barker’s seventh of the season.

Through 4.5 innings, the Hens were down 6-0. Back-to-back hits by RF Brent Clevlen and LF Timo Perez earned Toledo their first run of the game. Perez drove Clevlen in from first with a double into the right field corner.

Toledo scored three in the fifth, which featured a double off the top of the left field fence by Perez. After five complete innings the Hens were down 6-4.

The Hens took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two runners on, CF Clete Thomas hit a double to left center to tie the game at six. Thomas stole third base – his tenth stolen base of the season – and then scored on a ground out to put Toledo up 7-6.

RHP Eddie Bonine was the starter for the Hens. Bonine went 4.0 innings and gave up six earned runs off of four hits and four walks. Coming into Thursday, Bonine had walked only four batters in his last seven starts. The six earned runs were also a season high. However, Bonine stays a perfect 8-0 on the season as his outing was recorded as a no decision.

Coming into Thursday’s game, RHP Matt Rusch’s longest outing with the Hens was 1.2 innings and the most strikeouts recorded was two. He went 3.0 innings while striking out five in his relief appearance on Thursday. Rusch earned his second win of the season.

Around the Horn

No Run Zone -- Toledo leads the IL in throwing out potential base stealers (21 of 47). C Nick Trzesniak threw out his ninth of the season (9 of 16, 56.25%) in the fourth inning of Thursday’s game.

Clevlen Rocks -- With two hits on Thursday, Clevlen extended his on base streak to 28 games. This is the longest on base streak of the season in the International League. Andrew McCuthen (Indianapolis) had a 27 game on base streak from April 7 – May 5.

Thrilling Thursdays -- The Hens continue their perfect record on Thursday, as they are now 7-0. Thursday is the only day of the week that Toledo is undefeated.

Staying In The Park -- The Hens were homerless in Thursday’s game. This was the first game since Sunday, May 4 that they did not hit a home run (17 straight games -6 at home, 11 on the road).

Hens Dominate With The Bats; Beat Up On Louisville 6-0
5/22/08

The Hens looked to have their "ace" of last season return to mid-season form. RHP Virgil Vasquez (3-4) answered the call, but he gave up lead off base hits in the first five innings. He did pitch out of each jam masterfully though by striking out four and forcing two double plays on the way to his third win of the season.

The offense made it easy for him with three home runs. 3B Mike Hessman started another "Home Run Parade" with a solo-home run in the sixth. OF Timo Perez hit one of his own in the same inning and OF Brent Clevlen added a two-run blast to give their starting pitcher a 6-0 lead. Clevlen extended his consecutive game on-base streak to an I.L. best 29 games.

Vasquez kept the bats of Louisville from getting started. His seven innings of shutout baseball lowered his ERA to 5.88 from the 7.08 with which he entered the game. RHP Francis Beltran pitched two scoreless innings of relief to help secure the victory over their division rivals.

Round Trippin' Notes:

"The Home Run Parade":
Beyond The Numbers:
-Hail King Hessman!: 3B Mike Hessman hit his 19th home run of the year in the sixth inning of Friday night's victory over the Bats, a solo-shot that was belted to the score board in right field. He not only leads the I.L. in HRs, but he also is approaching another record. He is one home run shy of becoming the fastest player in I.L. history to reach twenty home runs in a season. The record is held by former Mud Hens outfielder Marcus Thames, who hit his 20th on June 8, 2004.
-How Many This Time?: After slugging two solo-shots and a 2-run homer versus Louisville Friday, Toledo has had 25 multi-home run games in 2008, which is over half of their games played during the season.
-An Unforeseeable Streak: The "Sluggers Of Mudville" have not been held to two consecutive games without hitting a home run all season.
-Living By The Homer...: The "Hammering Hens" have hit a home run in all but five games this season for a total of 88, which leads all of professional baseball. In games where the fences do not hold in the hits, Toledo has a 29-15 record.
-...But Not Dying Or Relying: With Thursday night's come-back victory over the Bats, the Mud Hens hold a 3-2 record in games they do not have a team long ball.
-International Record: The I.L. record for most team homers in a season is held by the 1932 Baltimore team that slugged 232. Toledo is on pace to hit 259.

Division Dominating: Toledo has a 4.0 game lead over Louisville in the I.L. West. They have been in first for 104 of the last 117 days dating back to last season.

Jackson Melian Ninth Inning Single Gives Hens 2-1 Victory In Dramatic Comeback Fashion
5/24/08

The pitching led the way for both teams in Saturday’s contest between the Mud Hens and the Bats. LHP Casey Fossum threw 6.1 innings of no-hit baseball while striking out 11 through seven innings. The no-hitter was broken up by 3B Andy Phillips fifth home run of the season. Fossum went 7.0 IP giving up one earned run on two hits but ended up with a no decision. This is the second time in as many starts that the lefty has struck out at least 10 batters.

Louisville starter LHP Matt Maloney was just as dominant for the Bats. He went seven innings giving up three hits but allowing no runs and struck out eight, but the bullpen could not hold on. RF Brent Clevlen drove in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth and LF Jackson Melian hit a ball off the center field wall to give the Hens the victory.

LHP Ian Ostlund earned the win and is now 1-0 on the season and RHP Jon Adkins (0-2) took the loss. This was the first time all season that the Hens took the victory after trailing after the eighth inning.

Hen Nuggets:

Bautista Sharp:
RHP Denny Bautista pitched a perfect inning on rehab with the Detroit Tigers (right shoulder) on Saturday. Bautista hit 96 mph on the radar gun and struck out one batter. He is expected to pitch 2.0 innings on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field.

May Madness: Coming in to Saturday’s game 3B Mike Hessman (.329), OF Brent Clevlen (.329), and C Nick Trzesniak (.324) are all hitting over .300 for the month of May. They account for 18 HR, 41 RBI, and 44 runs.

Patience Pays Off: The Mud Hens’ batters have been patient at the plate this season. They have the second most at-bats in all of the International League with 1,666. The Louisville bats are the only team in the league with more; they have totaled 1,690 at bats. The Hens’ batters are also ranked fourth in walks, they have 178 – Scranton-Wilkes Barre is first in the IL with 200

Friendly Fifth Third: Saturday’s attendance was 10,300 which was the sixth sell-out of the season and 181st all time at Fifth Third Field.

Larish And Sardinha Homer,
But Bats Avoid Sweep; Hens Lose 10-4

5/25/08

In the first inning, 2B Andy Green hit a home run in what started a rough outing for Hens RHP Jeremy Johnson (4-2). Johnson gave up four runs in the first and the Bats never looked back. The potent Hens' lineup answered with a 2-run bottom half to cut the Bats' lead to 2 thanks to a 1B Jeff Larish home run (16).

Louisville put up four more runs in the third before Johnson could record an out, chasing the starter from the game with an 8-2 deficit. Bats LHP Adam Pettyjohn (5-1) cruised 6.1 innings to earn the win.

With the score 10-3, Toledo would try for a comeback and made things interesting when C Dane Sardinha hit a lead-off ninth inning solo-home run (5). The game would end 10-4 as the Hens could not generate any more offense.

News And Notes:

King Hessman:
Reigning Toledo home run leader 3B Mike Hessman is approaching yet another milestone. He has 19 home runs this year and could become the fastest I.L. player since 1987 to hit 20 in a season. Hessman is also moving up the list in runs scored. He has 230 runs scored, which is good for fifth all-time in the modern-era. The record is held by Wayne Comer (1973) with 273.

Clevlen Is On Fire...:
OF Brent Clevlen is carrying a 31 game on-base streak and is batting .342 (38-111) with a .505 OBP slugging 8 doubles, 3 triples, 5 homers, driving in 27 RBI while scoring 20 runs.
...Especially Versus Louisville: Clevlen is also dominating against the Bats. He has a lifetime .354 average (23-65) versus Louisville with 5 doubles, 4 triples, 2 homers, 13 RBI, and 9 runs scored since 2007.

The Home Run Parade: After Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Bats, the Hens are 4-2 in games they do not hit a home run. Thanks to 1B Jeff Larish's 2-run shot in Sunday night's loss, the "Hammering Hens" have 90 long balls this season.

Playing With Pride:
The Hens have a .647 win percentage, which puts the 2008 team at fourth all-time in Toledo history if the season were to end today. The best win percentage came in 1883 when that team won 56 of 84 games (.667).

They Say They're "Crafty": With Sunday's loss to a left-handed starter, the Hens move to 6-6 against lefties.

Bonine Records First Loss of Season;
Fall 6-2 to Buffalo

5/27/08

It looked like the Hens were going to be shut out going into the ninth inning. The Hens were scoreless through eight, but they still had nine hits. Two runs were put up in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough as RF Brent Clevlen grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to end the game. CF Clete Thomas had three hits and SS Erick Almonte had two. The 6-2 loss to the Bisons extends the Hens’ losing streak to three games, which ties the longest streak of the season.

RHP Eddie Bonine (8-1) only lasted 2.0 innings in his tenth start of the season for the Hens. Coming into Tuesday night, Bonine had won eleven straight starts dating back to August 21, 2007. Also prior to Tuesday, Toledo’s offense averaged 7.22 runs a game when Bonine was on the hill – a team high for any current starter. LHP Ian Ostlund had a solid 3.0 innings of relief as he gave up zero runs while striking out three. RHP Denny Bautista (MLB Rehab) made a relief appearance. He went 1.1 innings as he gave up zero runs off of one hit, two walks and he struck out three.

Around The Horn

Leading The League -- RF Brent Clevlen extended his on base streak to 33 games – the best streak in the International League. During the streak he has batted .336 (40-119), 5 HR, 3 3B, 8 2B, 28 RBI and 20 Runs scored.
- Brent Clevlen has not reached base safely in only 5 of the 49 games he has played in this season. The Hens are 1-4 when he does not get on base safely.

Where the Buffalo Roam -- The Bisons are the only team to have more wins than losses at Fifth Third Field (14-12, .538) in the regular season. The next best records are Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (12-12, .500) and Durham (19-21, .475).

Streaking -- CF Clete Thomas extended his hit streak to 8 games. This is the longest streak this season for any Toledo Mud Hen. The next best was 7 by current Detroit Tiger, Matt Joyce.

Movin’ On Up -- After the second inning, 1B Jeff Larish headed to the clubhouse early. The Detroit Tigers have purchased his contract and Larish will join the Tigers for the final game of the series with the Angels. The move is to replace the Tiger’s Gary Sheffield who was just placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with an oblique strain.

Hessman And Perez Homer;
Hens Fail To Come Back; Lose 5-3

5/28/08

After being dominant in his last start, RHP Virgil Vasquez (3-5) was challenged by a stampeding Herd. The Bisons started a run rally in the second inning, led by a lead off double LF Andy Gonzalez which started a trend. He later scored from a DH Ryan Mulhern RBI-double as Buffalo would go on to score two more in the inning for a 3-0 lead.

The Hens answered Buffalo's 2-run fifth with a pair of their own. With the score 5-0, 3B Mike Hessman belted a one out two-run bomb - his twentieth - to put the struggling Hens right back in the game. Bisons winning starter RHP Matt Ginter (3-5) buckled down though - even after giving up two singles to LF Timo Perez and RF Brent Clevlen to follow Hessman's homer. He struck out and grounded out the next two batters to end the threat.

RHP Matt Rusch and RHP Francis Beltran from the Hen Pen kept things close, keeping the Herd off of the board for the next four innings. When OF Timo Perez hit a solo home run in the eighth, Toledo had a chance to come back in the ninth. However, closer RHP Rick Bauer (14) earned the save and kept the Hens from a come-back and would lose their fourth straight game.

Inside The Story:
Power Shortage? No Way!...: The Hens have gotten pretty used to scoring runs with brute force, sending deep fly balls over the outfield walls, but the "Hammering Hens" have been tamed the previous two games with no homers, which is by far their longest streak of the season. However, 3B Mike Hessman sent a "historic" one deep in the sixth - his 20th homer - and OF Timo Perez added a solo-shot.

...For Clevlen?: Of course not! OF Brent Clevlen extended his on-base streak to 34 games with a single in the sixth inning. During the streak he is batting .333 (41-123) with a .496 OBP and has 5 HRs and 28 RBI to go with it.

Back To The King: Mike Hessman's 20th homer on May 28, 2008 made him the fastest player in the I.L. since 1987 to hit his twentieth homer - thanks to research done by The Blade's John Wagner and the I.L. Office. The record was previously held by former Hen and current Tiger OF Marcus Thames who hit his on June 8, 2004.

Double Vision: The Bisons poured it on early against Hens' RHP Virgil Vasquez, scoring 5 runs in 5 innings thanks to 5 doubles. An intern just can't make this stuff up! The Bisons finished with 6 doubles.

Chocolate Box: One never knows what they're going to get. RHP Virgil Vasquez has had his share of success - and defeat - against the Bisons of
Buffalo. In his start against them in 2007, he held the Herd to no runs in six innings to earn the win. On the other hand, in his first start against the team in 2008, he suffered the loss giving up seven runs in over five innings of work. Bisons' starter RHP Matt Ginter had a career appearance versus the Sluggers of Mudville in 2006, also suffering the loss giving up five runs in over five innings. When he shut down the Hens' offense Wednesday night, it only seemed "fair".

BUSTED!: 1B Jordan Brown was stifled in the worst kind of way during Wednesday's Buffalo win over Toledo. He was the lone Bisons' starter to not record a hit, but he did record the final out of an inning in each of his plate appearances (0-5).

MUD HENS NOTEBOOK
Sardinha family reunion cut short

By JOE VARDON
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

The Cleveland Indians must have little regard for family reunions.

With the Indians' Triple-A club, the Buffalo Bisons, scheduled to arrive in Toledo yesterday for a four-game series against the Mud Hens, brothers Bronson and Dane Sardinha were going to get a chance to see one another and compete.

But the Indians interrupted most of those plans yesterday by transferring outfielder Bronson Sardinha from the Bisons' roster to Double-A Akron.

"He asked [the Indians] for a day to hang out with us, and then he'll leave [this morning] for Akron," Hens catcher Dane Sardinha said. "That's baseball."

The Sardinhas are from Honolulu, and their grandfather and brother are in town from the Pacific for this week's series. Dane said they also have an aunt from Virginia here for the games.

Bronson was supposed to stay at Dane's Toledo-area apartment this week, and family members were to have a cookout there after yesterday's game. At least they were able to be together for a day before Bronson headed for Akron.

"We felt like this would be an opportunity for him to play every day," Buffalo manager Torey Lovullo said. "We think he has a chance to develop by playing every day in Double-A, and we feel good about who he is and about him getting back to playing in Buffalo and potentially in Cleveland."

A third Sardinha brother, Duke, plays for Double-A Tulsa (Colorado). Brandon Sardinha, who came to Toledo this week to see two of his brothers play, is a fireman in Hawaii.

Bronson signed with the Indians May 6 after opening the season in the Seattle Mariners' system. A first-round pick of the New York Yankees in 2001, Bronson played against Dane the last two years with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate.

"It's hard for me catching when he's hitting," Dane said. "If he gets a hit, it's almost like the pitcher's thinking I gave him the signs.

"I'm not telling him what's coming. He's good enough that he doesn't need my help."

Bronson hit .300 with two homers and five RBIs in 12 games for Buffalo. Bronson and Danny Sandoval were moved to make room for outfielder Todd Linden and infielder Jorge Velandia, who both signed minor-league contracts with the Indians and joined the Bisons yesterday.

JOHNSON SIDELINED: Hens pitcher Jeremy Johnson is experiencing discomfort in his right elbow and said yesterday he expects to miss at least one start.

Johnson, who allowed eight runs in two-plus innings Sunday night, said he's had elbow pain in his last three starts.

He's allowed 21 runs in his last 202/3 innings, covering five appearances.

"I don't think it's anything serious, but whatever is going on needs to be taken care of because I'm not totally healthy," Johnson said.

Johnson (4-2, 5.79 ERA) will have his elbow examined by a doctor.

Hens manager Larry Parrish said Johnson may have been hurt throwing a slider - a pitch the coaching staff convinced him to start throwing last month.

Parrish said Yorman Bazardo, who has bounced between the starting rotation and bullpen and allowed two runs in five innings of relief Sunday night, will likely take Johnson's starting spot.

BUSY BODIES: The Bisons placed pitcher Adam Miller (right long finger inflammation) on the disabled list yesterday, and have endured 33 personnel moves since April 23.

Toledo has had six personnel moves in the same time frame.

TONIGHT: Hens right-hander Eddie Bonine (8-0, 3.79 ERA) is scheduled to pitch against Buffalo lefty Jeremy Sowers (2-3, 2.45) at 6:30 p.m.

Nine Is Fine For Bonine;
Hens Win 5-3 Sunday

6/1/08

When the Indians struck first in the fourth with OF Craig Wilson's home run (7), the Hens needed to up their game to avoid dropping their seventh game in eight contests. Led by the another stellar pitching performance by RHP Eddie Bonine (9-1), the Hens can now tie the series Monday evening.

Bonine cruised through seven innings, allowing only three runs in a performance that mirrored his early season dominance as he pitched his team leading seventh quality start. The Mud Hens offense was slow to start, but provided plenty of cushion as the game wore on the Indianapolis pitchers. Indians starter RHP Ty Taubenheim (3-8) kept the Hens off the board for the first four innings, but 2B Michael Hollimon got things going with an RBI hit to tie the game 1-1. The Indians took the lead again in the bottom half of the fifth, but it was not enough to cover the damage that would follow from the Hens' bats.

The Hens scored three runs on three consecutive plays in the sixth to give them a 4-2 lead. SS Erick Almonte doubled in a run, LF Freddy Guzman brought one in on a sacrifice fly, then C Nick Trzesniak singled in the inning's final run. CF Matt Joyce (7) slugged a home run - his second in as many games - to put the game out of reach 5-3.

The Hen Pen got the job done as RHP Preston Larrison kept the game out of reach despite allowing Bonine's last runner to score and closer Blaine Neal earned his league leading 17th save in as many opportunities.

News:
Clevlen Rocks: OF Brent Clevlen extended his on-base streak to 38 games and his hitting streak to 12 games with a double in Sunday's win over Indy.
