Woman has octuplets

Some woman in California just gave birth to octuplets. The doctor that performed that in vitro fertilization should lose his license. The woman already had 6 kids, she doesn't work, and she lives with her mother in a 1500 square foot house.

Even if having 8 more kids was a good idea, implanting 8 at once was equally foolish. I haven't followed the story closely enough to see how the kids are doing but I'm sure several of them have all kinds of medical issues. Humans aren't capable of having 8 kids at once...even having twins is risky and requires close supervision from a doctor.

I agree, they need to go after this doctor!

They showed images of those kids today on the news. They all look so sickly. That's what happens when you try and have eight kids at once. She already had 6 (which was too many for someone with no income living with her mother) and shouldn't have had any more. There's no way any of those kids are going to have a good childhood having 13 siblings in a tiny house. One of her other kids has autism and I can't imagine it will get the care it needs while the mother tries to raise eight infants.

But she did not have kids to play with when she was little...so she needs them now so they have lots of family,... and she feels she is a great mom, bunch of bull crap... nobody needs that many kids when they have no dad, no income, not much future. The lady needs lots of psych counseling! And a hysterectomy!

They showed a few seconds of an interview with her on the news. She claims she was well-informed of all the risks involved with such a pregnancy. No sane person with 6 children would think those risks are worth it. No sane doctor would help her have any more kids let alone eight. What's especially pathetic is an American doctor performed the procedure, not some third-world doctor.

Where do all these kids live? The neighborhood is all 2-3 bedroom homes. Assuming her house has 3 bedrooms that means 5-6 people per room (the mother, her parents, and 14 kids). She has already filed for bankruptcy so her justification of "I've never been on welfare" doesn't really work.

Maybe she can go for nontuplets next year? If that works why not dectuplets?

I'll stop my life for them and be present with them and hold them and be with them. And how many parents do that?

To answer her rhetorical question: All good parents do that. My parents never won mother/father of the year but they've always been there. Then again I don't have 13 siblings.

They asked how she could afford to have this many embryos implanted... that is how much money she had from DISABILITY! DISABILITY, SINGLE AND AN IDIOT!

$165,000 in disability over 9 years is $18,333 a year. Divided by 14 kids she has $1,309 per month to spend on them per year (assuming no other expenses whatsoever). There are 12 months in a year so apparently babies cost $109 per month. Of course she has other expenses so I guess babies are well under $109 a month to raise. Hell, I can afford that. Might as well have a few kids right now

Madonna and Angelina Jolie (whom she is trying to resemble?!?!) at least have the multimillions necessary. And these babies aren't even well.
Plus, she's attempting to get an advanced degree in psychology? She can analyze herself for her thesis!

Sorry to spout, but I've been watching this for the past couple of weeks. The woman is mentally unbalanced, does not have the support of her family, and has no insight or judgment regarding the physical impossibility of her situation.
We've got to pray for the children...that's all they have now!

If you really want to get rich, have tons (12+) of children and have a very large (7+) birth in there.

LOS ANGELES - The doctor who helped Nadya Suleman get pregnant with octuplets has reportedly transferred at least seven embryos to another patient.

According to the Los Angeles Times , a woman in her late 40s went to Dr. Michael Kamrava hoping to become pregnant with one baby.

The Times now says she is 5-months pregnant with quadruplets and hospitalized. The paper adds that the woman has no insurance so she was transferred to a county hospital where she will stay until the births which might not be for two or three months.

The new case has fueled the controversy over the ethical standards of Kamrava's practice and whether the fertility industry needs more regulation, according to the Times.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine , which has guidelines limiting the number of embryos that can be transferred depending on the woman's age and other circumstances, said it is also examining the doctor's practice. No laws govern this issue.

At least this latest one is only pregnant with quadruplets. That's getting borderline reasonable. Still, 4 babies is probably too many to carry at once. I think anyone willing to undergo this type of procedure should also favor selective reduction - it is necessary to implant a lot of fetuses to have a good chance that 1+ take but on the same hand it is wrong to attempt to carry so many at once because it always turns out bad for the children and often for the mother. Humans can't carry more than 2 or 3 (maybe 4) babies at once without putting all parties at risk, that's why anything more than triplets is almost unheard of without fertilization techniques.

To add to that, I suppose people that are morally opposed to selective reduction could have 1-2 fetuses implanted at a time and hope it works. That would be safe for the babies and wouldn't involve removing any viable fetuses. The problem is of course it might take a few attempts. Under no circumstances should someone attempt to have octuplets. Generally several of the babies are born dead or die shortly after birth and the surviving children are so premature that they have major birth defects that often cause permanent problems.

This is crazy. We've been getting orders at work for this lady for the past couple of weeks. All paid for and ordered by charities or other people and not the mother who should have to pay for everything like a normal mother does. This doctor should have his practice taken away.

The papers indicate Suleman last made a payment on the three-bedroom house in May 2008 and has filed for bankruptcy.

Texas-based debt collection agency NDEx West, operating on behalf of mortgage lender IndyMac Federal Bank, declined comment and Suleman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Her daughter, Nadya, 33, jobless and receiving food stamps, drew international headlines and a torrent of public ridicule after giving birth January 26 to octuplets conceived through in vitro fertilization.

That criticism intensified when it was learned she already had six children, ages 2 to 7, that she was collecting disability checks for three of them, and that they all were living with the grandmother.

Angela Suleman also has complained publicly of the financial burden and voiced skepticism about her daughter's ability to care for 14 children.

The public backlash grew so hostile that Nadya Suleman -- dubbed "octo-mom" in the tabloid press -- went into seclusion with her six older kids last week due to death threats, according to a publicity firm hired by the family.

Spokesman Michael Furtney, whose firm has since severed ties with Suleman because of the threats, said she and her children recently moved back in with the grandmother.
