Furloughs in California start Friday

Our idiot governor has given many state workers a twice-a-month furlough starting Friday. Under this plan, non-essential state workers will be given the first and third Fridays of every month off without compensation. This is essentially a 10% cut in pay. I forget how long this program is supposed to run. When the program ends people will be compensated by being given one vacation day for every day they had off. They can take the vacation or cash it out when they retire.

There are several problems with this plan:
1. People working for the prisons are subject to this. The prisons can't shut down so other people have to work and will be paid overtime.
2. Elected officials are not subject to the furloughs. Everyone hates politicians so this will piss people off.
3. When people aren't working the work won't get done. A better solution would be a straight 5% pay cut with no time off.
4. People are going to be confused. The DMV and most state-run organizations will not be open.
5. California's governor is an idiot. California is generally a richer state but at the moment it is worse off than at least half the states. That's what happens when idiots elect, and the reelect, a movie star to a political office.
