TIGERS PURCHASE LISK’S CONTRACT

October 10, 2008 - The Gateway Grizzlies announced Friday morning that the Detroit Tigers have purchased the contract of catcher Charlie Lisk.

Lisk, who was originally drafted in 2001 by the Chicago White Sox, was acquired by the Grizzlies in a trade from Windy City prior to the 2007 season. He spent the last two seasons behind the plate for the Grizzlies.

The 2008 season was arguably Lisk’s finest season as a professional baseball player. In 87 games he hit .313 with 12 doubles, two triples, 24 home runs, and he drove in 64 runs. Lisk finished the season tied for second in the Frontier League in home runs and was fourth in the league with a .583 slugging percentage. Defensively, he was solid behind the plate as well, throwing out 20 of 63 potential base stealers. His percentage of .317 was good for seventh in the league.

During his two-year tenure at Gateway, Lisk hit 39 home runs and added 105 RBIs. He was named to the Frontier League All-Star team both seasons and was selected as a post-season All-Star in 2008.

“I’m happy for Charlie and I know he will embrace this opportunity,” said Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren. “He came into his own offensively last season and is arguably the best catcher in this league."
