Rogers to play for Detroit in 09?

According to MLive.com, Kenny may not retire and he wants to play for Detroit, and nobody else.

Kenny Rogers: Pitching in Detroit is my first choice

Kenny Rogers spoke at length with the Free Press in late September. Here are portions of that interview:

QUESTION: What are going to be the big factors that determine whether you're going to pitch another year?


ANSWER: Same as always: Are you motivated to do the things it takes to get ready? Are you able to have the kind of success you want? I'm not good at failure. I don't take it very well.

Q: Will your family (Rogers lives near Dallas) be an important factor in the decision?


A: It is for every player. My wife's always said, 'Whatever you want to do,' even though I know what she'd like. It's my decision, but that's a factor I take into account. There's so many things you think about as a player.

Q: Do you feel like this is the only place where you would pitch in 2009?


A: I think everyone knows this is my first choice. There's not even a close second.

Q: And if they say, 'It's been great, but ...'


A: There's nothing that they would say or think that would change my opinion of the Tigers. The Detroit organization has been great to me. I want them to do what's best for them. Whatever they decide, I'm completely fine with. It's my decision, too, but there's nothing they can do to diminish my appreciation and respect for them.

Q: If they say you're not in their plans for next year, would that automatically end it for you?


A: I wouldn't say that. I would never say that. If you want to play, you want to play.

I still don't want him.

As a coach maybe.

Kenny was a good guy for te Tigers....but I think he is done as an effective pitcher.

Yep. After that blood clot in 2007 he was done. 2006 was great, but he's way too old to ever get back to even mediocre form. Sorry Kenny.

The Tigers already signed him to an extension last winter
