I hate Algebra 2!!!

Ok all you math geniuses I am having trouble with one of my Algebra 2 problems. The section in my book is called 'Making a Perfect Square Trinomial in Order to Factor a Difference of Squares' basically the idea is that you have a trinomial but it isn't square, so in order to make it square you have to add or subtract something from it.

Here is the problem:

4c^4-37c^2d^2+9d^4

Then you have to subtract 25c^2d^2 from that so that it is a perfect square trinomial. Then after that you want to factor it to get two trinomials:

(2c^2+5cd-3d^2)(2c^2-5cd-3d^2)

I thought that is the end but the answer book reduces it a step further to get:

(2c-d)(c+3d)(2c+d)(c-3d)

How the did they get that?? I think I get how the answer could be that but I don't know how to make it that, so right now I am super confused! Help!!!

(if it makes any difference I have scoured through every single Algebra 2 help site out there and I haven't found anything like this! Oh and sorry if I confuse anyone )

4c^4-37c^2d^2+9d^4

I'm confused on why you subtract 25c^2d^2. When you carry out (2c^2+5cd-3d^2)(2c^2-5cd-3d^2) you get...

4c^4-25c^2d^2+9d^4

So did you mean replace the -37c^2d^2 with -25c^2^d^2? 25 is a perfect square so that makes sense.

Anyways, I know that's what you didn't ask me.

You want to know how to get from

(2c^2+5cd-3d^2)(2c^2-5cd-3d^2)

to here

(2c-d)(c+3d)(2c+d)(c-3d), right?

Too early for me to think...either that or once you learn this you can forget this as it's irrelevant in calculus and what not.

No they want the middle number to be -12cd (edited: I said that wrong the first time)

But yeah, I just want to know how to get from the 2 trinomials to the 4 binomials.

Your not the only one that is confused.

Original problem:

New Problem:

4c⁴-12c²d²+9d⁴

(and there is suppoed to be a -25c²d² at the end but that factors out when you factor it into the two trinomials)

I don't like Algebra

I remember I had to have my high school boyfriend help me with it every day after school plus have extra sessions with my teacher after class I only took one semester of it because I'd already taken all of Algebra I and Geometry; we needed 5 semesters of math to graduate.

For a math class, I liked Algebra 2. My teacher was one of those rare good math teachers. He gave me an A in all 4 quarters

The class I hated was photography my senior year. I mean it was an easy A and kind of interesting, but still - it's not all that important. If not for that class I could have taken AP Environmental Science (which was supposed to be another easy A) and raised my GPA further...that was the only AP class I didn't get to take.

Unless you're in the sciences or medicine, that's about what you need to know to get by!

Just get the basics down because you actually do need them in real life...
For example:

--when buying a car, calculating your payments
--when budgeting
--when figuring out your car's gas mileage, and believe me, you will want to know this eventually
--when going over your paycheck stub to make sure you were paid correctly (errors can and do happen).

I used to hate it too, but I got through it anway.
