Just curious as to what everyone was doing on this infamous day....

I had just been hired by a hospital in California. My husband had a job there as well, so we commuted (1 hour each way). This happened at 5:47 AM PST so we were blissfully unaware, as we didn't have the radio on. I had only been working at this job for a week so was anxious to get there and get started at 7 AM. When I got there, all my coworkers had long faces and told me to get over to the employee lounge to watch the TV, where I saw it on CNN. I kept running over there during the morning to see what was happening. When the second tower fell (I actually watched that live), the whole hospital clamped down, because everyone was afraid that San Francisco would be attacked next. We could only go in and out of one door in the hospital. Four squad cars were parked in the hospital's front drive and we were on lock-down this way for the rest of the year.

I also remember all the "Captain America" cars (sporting flags everywhere) and people at the local shopping mall walking around very quiet and stunned that weekend.

The other curiosity I mention is that at a previous hospital where I worked in 1999, I had a deeply spiritual co-worker who, while not claiming to be clairvoyant, could sometimes see things. At the time, we were all worried about Y2K, so I asked her if she thought we would "get through" it. She said yes, but there was something else she saw that disturbed her far more. She said that not long after Y2K, there would be a terrible day where fire would rain from the sky and people would be running to the churches. She said this with such somberness that I was taken aback for a few minutes. And when this day happened, I immediately thought of her.

I was in 10th grade and in English class. Some teacher came into the room and whispered something to my teacher and she ran out of the room crying. 10 minutes later I went to my next class, Spanish, and the tv was on showing a replay of what had happened. I just stood there shocked for about a minute.

Later, I found out that my English teacher knew someone that was working in the Pentagon. Thankfully, nothing happened to him.

We need to be reminded every year about WHY there is a war! I was at home when it happened and my mom and I were in shock over the events of the day! You did not know if it would end, or how many attacks would happen, once we realized it was a deliberate attack, and not just an accident at tower one.

They mentioned today that there have been, I think 5, other attempted attacks since then that have been stopped by homeland security! Don't be naive people, to think this is over! Al-Qaeda has not given up, they still want all Americans dead.

Pray for the families of those killed that day! They go through the sorrow every year, on this anniversary.

Quote :
NEW YORK (AP) - Relatives of victims killed at the World Trade Center are observing a moment of silence to mark the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The silence marks the exact time - 8:46 - when the first hijacked plane struck the trade center. Other moments of silence were planned for the times when the second plane hit and when the towers fell.

Other ceremonies are being held throughout the day, including one at the Pentagon, where a new memorial will be dedicated. Services will also be held in Shanksville, Pa., where one of the hijacked planes crashed.

Later Thursday, Barack Obama and John McCain are due at ground zero to pay silent respects.

I was in 3rd grade, and it seems like such a long time ago, but truthfully it was not. It was mostly tried to be kept a secret, but eventually our principal came over the intercom and announced it to the school. If I remember correctly, my sister or someone else I knew watched some of what happened in the library. That night, my sister's basketball team had practice. At the end, my Dad being one of their coaches brought the team together to say a prayer for everyone involved. Also, I was extremely scared that something could happen to me in some way involving it during the night; so I remember making my Dad sleep on the floor in my room that night.

On a side note, we later found out that someone that had graduated from my school was in one of the twin towers when they were hit, she escaped and was fine thankfully.

No, we are not being attacked anymore! Glad we have homeland security!

By the way, every big war was started under a democrat president, except the current one. And it should have been started at least 4 years before Bush did something! Clinton was a fool that thought if you ignore the terrorists, they would go away. Under his administration we had the USS Cole ship bombing, World trade center bombing first attempt, embassy attacks, plus others.

Actually cat, what you said is not offensive to me, you have your right to your beliefs. In both cases (WW II and the present one) the US was not the group to declare war first. But in both cases it was a foriegn group who declared was ON US FIRST, and/or attacked us first!

We never even thought of the Japanese as a threat on the US. We ended up involved AFTER THEY BOMBED PEARL HARBOR. They also had the national attitude of death to the last enemy.

Japans bombing in China was against civilians. China lost 2,500,000 MILITARY and 7,500,00 CIVILIAN. The Soviet Union lost 10,000,000 MILITARY and 10,000,000 CIVILIANS in their war with Germany and Japan. JAPAN lost 2,000,000 MILITARY and 350,000 CIVILIAN. The Allied forces (our side) lost 14,276,800 Millitary and 25,686,900 CIVILIAN FOR A TOTAL OF 39,963,700. (see this link for war totals)

My dad was in WW II and saw how the Japanese acted towards others. He hated the idea of the Nuclear bomb, but we were in a race with Germany in building one. And the Japanese government was not Yielding to any efforts to get them to surrender. To America's credit, Leaflets were dropped over cities before they were bombed, warning the people and urging them to escape the city. This held true for both conventional and finally the two nuclear bombs.

Unlike the present war, millions were being killed on all sides in both theaters of war.

Interestingly, Islam and Al-Qaeda declared war on us years ago, we just kept getting hit, and did nothing, until 9-11.

Yes, we went after them in Afghanistan, and after seeing what was happening to the people in Iraq, and finding Al-Qaeda there too, President Bush, and congress decided to enter into conflict there. Even though Bill and Hill Clinton and many Democrats are against the war in Iraq, they were for it in the beginning! We have video footage of them saying so.

When we look at the deaths in this conflict, it is like a flea on a horse! America no longer has a backbone to stand up for freedom and we are giving up our freedoms daily and allowing the Federal Government to take over our lives. This is why GS is so angry, and so am I. Hail, hail America, home of the weak, and land of growing socialism! Our founding fathers would be sick and ashamed at what we have become!!!!

I know this will be offensive to some, but I feel strongly about the America my father fought for and many have died for!

God help america!

Thank You!

And no Catbox; It ain't offensive; I don't fully agree [ we had this discussion on nuclear weapons before] but at least you defend your stance from a logical point

I have been arguing with nitwits on the White Sox Board who refer to me as a bigot and a racist because I claim Obama will give reparations and more welfare and how African American panhandlers that beg for money are lazy and refuse to work

It is true; Because the owners of the parking garage where I park for Tigers games offer these bums a few bucks to flag cars or pick up trash; most are offended and storm off
