Green and orange letters on a black screen! That was just plain flat out DOS...

Nod

Good old days??? In some ways, yes, but those early consumer computers were more for games..... DOS was made to help companies run spreadsheets and finally word processing.... no internet! I remember the first time a student friend of mine, at Univ. of So. Fla actually used a 300 baud modem to hook to the university's mainframe computer to do computer programming. I could not do it because it was a long distance call at 50 cents per min., and you needed hooked up for 3-5 hours to do the work needed each time. It was cheaper to drive 45 minutes to Tampa and spend the day programming on campus!

Now we complain because of 56,000 k (baud) modem speed being so slow, and most use broadband internet!

Yep. remember when we were happy with a 5 meg hard drive and 256k ram?

I remember all the ads about hard drives coming down to $1 meg! That would make a 256 meg hd $256... and my 500 GB hard drive $5000 in 1987! I paid $79 for the 500 gig drive new last year!

clap smart teacher! Good lesson! Imagine typing a couple of paragraphs, MAKING ONE MISTAKE, and having to start ALL OVER AGAIN!!! grouch Even if you had an erasable ribbon on an electric typewriter, it didn't always work. So imagine what it was like for us the first time we used a word-processing program and were able to type stuff on a screen and were able to MOVE IT AROUND and delete things before even printing it out!!! It was unreal scratch

Our erasable typewriter does a good job fixing your mistakes. I think we still have it somewhere...
