Tigers recall Jeff Larish, send Chris Lambert to Toledo

The Tigers recalled left-handed-hitting Jeff Larish from Triple-A Toledo today. To make room for Larish, the club optioned right-hander Chris Lambert to Toledo, one day after he lost his major-league debut to

Presuming that Lambert is staying in the Tigers rotation, his next turn won't come up until Monday -- which is Sept. 1, the first day of the season-ending roster expansions from 25 to 40 players.

So Lambert could be recalled to make that start. Or, thanks to Thursday's open date, Justin Verlander could start on his normal four days rest in Monday's make-up game against the Yankees, and Lambert (or whoever takes his spot in the rotation) could pitch against the visiting Angels Tuesday.

In another move, the Tigers announced that right-hander Francis Beltran has been outrighted to Toledo. He was designated for assignment to make room for Lambert on the 25-man roster.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! No, no, no, no, no!! They couldn't have waited till after tomorrows game? I really, really wanted to see him in Toledo!!

So does this mean that they are going with a 4-man rotation? pray

Maybe Leyland will pitch himself!

Lambert will be back in time to pitch tuesday, if I remember correctly. They are waiting for the roster expansion. (see article under Chris Lambert, under the new players section.)

--RHP Chris Lambert was optioned back to Class AAA Toledo by Detroit on Wednesday but will be brought back when rosters are expanded to start Tuesday against Los Angeles. The Tigers recalled 1B/3B Jeff Larish from the Mud Hens to provide some infield protection as regular 3B Carlos Guillen recovers from a sore back. The Tigers don't need a fifth starter until Monday because they don't play Thursday. Manager Jim Leyland confirmed Wednesday that Lambert would be recalled when Detroit's active roster is expanded so he can start on Tuesday.
