| 08/14/2008 7:55 PM ET Marlins have shot at big league recordCantu could be fourth Florida infielder with 25 home runsBy Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com MIAMI -- The Marlins already have made history, and they're on the verge of becoming pioneers. With Mike Jacobs' home run on Sunday, Florida became just the seventh team in 132 years of Major League Baseball history to sport three infielders with at least 25 home runs in one season, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Going into the series finale against the Cardinals on Thursday, Jacobs (25), Dan Uggla (26) and Hanley Ramirez (26) all have reached the quarter-century mark and have accounted for 48 percent of the Marlins' homers this season. Even more impressive is the fact that if third baseman Jorge Cantu hits five more home runs, the Marlins will sport the first infield in baseball history to have four players with 25-plus homers. He has 41 games to do it. With Cantu's home run on Aug. 9, the Marlins became the first National League team to have four infielders with at least 20 homers. "The power numbers have been awesome, and for them to do that, it's just great," said center fielder Cody Ross, who has 17 home runs and is one of six Marlins who could end up with at least 20 at the end of the season. "No one has ever [had four infielders hit 25-plus home runs], and I don't think anyone will ever do it again. "A lot of times, teams will have first basemen or third basemen that hit for power, but to also have a second baseman do what Uggla does and a shortstop do what Hanley does ... it's pretty amazing what they've done." Of the six other teams that reached the feat, six have done it since 2002 -- the '02 Yankees, 2003-05 Rangers and '05 Diamondbacks. The Dodgers, with Ron Cey, Steve Garvey and Davey Lopes each hitting 28 home runs, did it in 1979. "Any time you can do anything like that, it's pretty special," said Jacobs, who, along with Uggla and Josh Willingham, was part of the first rookie trio to hit 20-plus dingers on the same team in 2006. Cardinals third baseman Troy Glaus knows a little bit about that type of accomplishment. The 32-year-old slugger was part of the D-backs squad -- with Tony Clark and Chad Tracy -- that did it two years ago. "They're putting up good numbers and having a really good year. I think the whole team is having a pretty good year," said Glaus of the Marlins, who are third in the Major Leagues with 161 home runs. "This game has been played a long time, so for them to [have four infielders hit 25-plus homers], it would be a great feather in the cap at the end of the year. "But if you ask the Marlins, they'd rather be playing in the playoffs." C'mon, hit me one today! I think you meant "C'mon, hit at least two today! " Let's get greedy! I learned the best way to get things you have no control over is to ask for a lot more than you really want. Like when Phelps was in a close race I'd yell and cheer for the guy he was neck and neck with to drown. Realistically I only wanted him to slow down a bit but by wishing for him to drown (which is much more than I actually wanted), I got what I wanted - 8 golds. | |

I'm not very good at this meanness thing I don't think That's better! And no, you aren't. You must not beat your children enough. I guess that's okay - the husband is stronger and can beat them better.

| 09/12/2008 8:53 PM ET Cantu makes history with home run Marlins have four infielders with at least 25 taters in one year By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com
MIAMI -- Jorge Cantu launched the Marlins into the record books on Friday night at Dolphin Stadium.
On a 1-2 offering from Nationals right-hander Shairon Martis in the fourth inning, Cantu connected on a solo homer to left-center. It was the third baseman's 25th blast of the season.
The Marlins became the first team in Major League Baseball history to boast four infielders with at least 25 homers apiece.
Cantu joins first baseman Mike Jacobs (32), second baseman Dan Uggla (30) and shortstop Hanley Ramirez (29) as the first foursome to achieve the benchmark.
Cantu has played mostly third base this season, but he's also seen considerable action in the late innings at first base.
Home runs have been a staple of the team. Counting outfielder Cody Ross' 21 homers, the Marlins have five players with more than 20 homers for the first time in their history.
The Marlins have never had three players reach 30 in a year. Ramirez is on the brink of doing that.
A year ago, three Florida infielders had more than 25 homers: Miguel Cabrera (34), Uggla (31) and Ramirez (29).
In all, eight teams in history have had three infielders with 25 or more: Marlins (2008), Marlins (2007), Rangers (2005), Diamondbacks (2005), Rangers (2004), Rangers (2003), Yankees (2002) and Dodgers (1979).

Can they get 26? 27? 30? 90? Maybe on the first 3. You have to be really drunk to yes on the fourth one :haha:
