Imus said something controversial about Pacman Jones yesterday but I didn't pay attention to what. Thoughts?

Black People can talk smack about Whites; But if a White Person says something critical about blacks or other minorities, they are labeled racists and punished!

This is probably not a smart thing to say, but can someone explain to me the difference between the KKK and NAACP. Aren't they basically the same thing? I mean the KKK is probably a little more violent than the NAACP, but don't they basically want the same things for those they represent?

I don't mean this in a racist sort of way, but that's because of the White Guilt Syndrome. We 'owe' just about every other race in the world because... they say so?

I never owned slaves; my ancestors came from Ireland, Poland and Armenia in the late 1800s, early 1900's; After they came here, they lived in the North; not the Jim Crow south


Maybe the rednecks in the south can trace their roots back to the Pre Slave South; but I can't!

I am tired of hearing shit from Blacks about something me nor my ancestors did not do

You shouldn't say "black" either. The correct term is African-American which I find quite silly as 99.9% of said people are born in the United States and therefore not African at all. Personally, I'd be offended if someone called me an Irish-American or Italian-American as you have to go back quite a few generations to get any ancestors in those places.

All of these special interest groups designed to promote equality do just the opposite. Get rid of all of it and we'll have more equality than ever before.

My dad's ancestors were from Ireland (no slavery there) and came to the US via Boston (no slavery there) and quickly went to Clinton, Iowa (no slavery there). I don't have the exact dates (although if I were home I could get them) but even if those places were slave-owning states it wouldn't matter - they all came well after the Civil War was over.

The same can be said for my mom's family who came to the US even later from Italy.

If people are owed something for things that happened hundreds of years ago, where's my something? My dad's family is from Ireland. Read your history - the Irish weren't treated very well by the English historically yet I've never received a dime nor have I ever expected it...it was all hundreds of years ago. I've got nothing against the English now. I was in England and they're good people. Why hold a grudge against something that was hundreds of years before your time?

Hey, I was agreeing with you! (Sorry if it sounded otherwise.)

My ancestors lived in the South but were so poor they couldn't even afford coal to heat their houses, let alone slaves. I was saying that we're being guilted by other races (unfairly).

Of course, in protest of what is true inequality, whenever my teachers have/may insist that I use the term "African American" I insist on being called Scottish-French-English American...

Maybe it's because I'm not black... but I kind of take it as Imus (like in the article I linked to) was saying that the guy was arrested just because he was black. Not that he was guilty because he was black.

And a very valid point, cat. Why the hell isn't that guy in jail? (I don't care what color you are, if you've been arrested six damn times, you're obviously doing SOMETHING wrong.)

It's worse than that. He was suspended form the entire NFL season last year because he's been accused of something like 11 felonies. I know you're innocent until proven guilty but if you're suspected of more than 10 felonies they ought to throw you in jail and throw away the key without a trial. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is wrongfully accused that many times in such a short time period.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm being too sarcastic. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. I understand that this country's got an ugly history but I'd like to think that for the most part we've smoothed out all of those wrinkles.
