The Marlins have demoted catcher Mike Rabelo, whose mistakes Sunday proved costly in a 7-1 loss to the Oakland A's.

Rabelo was optioned to Triple A Albuquerque.

The Marlins called up catcher Paul Hoover and also added outfielder Josh Willingham to the roster. Willingham has been on the disabled list since April 28 with a back injury.

Rabelo, who was among the six players the Marlins obtained in their trade with Detroit in December, allowed one run to score Sunday because of a passed ball. The A's pushed three more runs across when he failed to tag a runner on a play at the plate to complete a double play.

Playing time for the 28-year-old catcher had diminished, with Matt Treanor assuming most of the catching duties.

Wow. I mean, yeah, he made some mistakes, but the fish have taken making mental mistakes to a higher level, to where it's almost an art form :haha: And Hoover blows. They are making an example of him. I bet he doesn't stay down there long. There is no way Hoover can play at this level for longer than about a week and a half and Treanor can't catch everyday.

I feel bad for him. But that double play shoulda been completed. That is a costly mistake.

He had a horrible game that day, the passed ball let a run score and then he messed up a double steal throw and then the whole "Oops that wasn't a force?" play... very bad But overall I think he's still better than Hoover. His head just obviously wasn't in that game at all. The Fish have a lot worse things to deal with than Rabelo, like, a whole damn new bullpen
