Baker strikes out four in one inning
Right-hander becomes first Twins pitcher to accomplish feat

MILWAUKEE -- The feat of a pitcher striking out the side is impressive enough. But when that accomplishment includes recording four strikeouts in the inning, it constitutes a record.

Twins right-hander Scott Baker tied a Major League record on Sunday afternoon in his start against the Brewers when he struck out four batters in the third inning.

Baker got Ryan Braun to strike out swinging for the first out of the inning. Prince Fielder then struck out swinging, but reached first base on a wild pitch. Undaunted by Fielder reaching base, Baker then got the next two batters -- Russell Branyan and Mike Cameron -- to strike out looking.

It marked the first time a Twins pitcher has accomplished the feat. Baker also became the first American League pitcher to do it since Kazuhiro Sasaki struck out four in an inning on April 4, 2003, while pitching for the Mariners.

"I didn't even think about it," Baker said of the feat. "I came in [the clubhouse] and heard somebody say something about it. Yeah, that's pretty crazy. That's when I was starting to feel pretty good. I was bouncing a few breaking balls and these guys are free swingers."

The last time in the Major Leagues it happened was on Sept. 23, 2006, when the Dodgers' Brad Penny struck out four in the second inning of a game against the Diamondbacks.
