| By the way, he SUCKS!!! He spent a whole half inning discussing Jim McKay last night at the Cubs-Dodgers game....said absolutely nothing about the game currently being played right in front of them! My hubby and I couldn't believe it! | |

| Monday, June 9, 2008 Tigers' Bonderman has more tough luck Lynn Henning / The Detroit News
DETROIT -- Some honest-to-goodness luck might finally have been knocking at Jeremy Bonderman's locker deep in the Tigers clubhouse. It had seemed that way after four consecutive solid starts.
His elbow was behaving. He was beginning to cut loose with the fastball and with that slider that can be mean as a rattlesnake.
He looked as if he might be on his way five years after he broke in with the Tigers, trumpeted as their ace-in-the-making, as their right-handed mound Marine.
Things happened along the way: finger blisters, elbow hassles, first-inning demons, a couple of 6-0 leads that weren't held down the stretch in 2006.
Then, after the past month's revival suggested he could be the Tigers' savior down the stretch, the worst of Bonderman's timeline gremlins showed up this weekend. He had a blocked vein in the right side of his chest, a bad situation with a scary medical term: blood clot of the axillary vein due to thoracic outlet compression syndrome.
Develop one of those babies and it's essentially goodbye to your season. A rib likely will be removed once doctors provide a final analysis, probably sometime this week.
The procedure is projected to make an otherwise healthy, 25-year-old right-hander all the healthier. But it probably will not be until next February in Lakeland, Fla., that anyone next will see Bonderman throw a pitch.
Bonderman realizes he could be feeling a lot worse. So, too, could his wife, Amber, and daughter, Mailee, who need a husband and father to be on hand for lots more decades. Blood clots, as everyone knows, are grief waiting to happen.
Bonderman would have none of the doom and gloom as he stood at his locker following Sunday's 5-2 Tigers' victory over Cleveland. He tends to be like that -- almost innocent in the way he looks at baseball and at life.
After doctors performed a "thrombolysis" Friday night to destroy the clot, Bonderman marveled not so much over his survival, but of how his pitching arm felt. It means he can expect better days in the future, which is his focus.
"I had more feeling in my hand after they broke it up," he said, recalling his own words to himself:
"Man, I can move my hand better."
Bonderman now has another mission. To get healthy. To get that rib removed without any undue hassles. To find that his circulation, in fact, will be better, and that, if the gods are indeed patting him on the back in 2008, he can go home to hunt the wheat fields of eastern Washington this autumn and be even sturdier when he shows up at spring training in 2009.

I would love to see his face when he realizes it's sent from Switzerland. Yep, he will be amazed as to how world wide the Tigers fanbase really is! I am going to start "trying to write to some of the players" and see psychologically how I can help. The team is in bad need of a Sports Psych counselor! The Indians are the team that is highly into sports counselors right now. Detroit, and several other teams, could really break out of their problems -- with help in this area! Leyland is lost as to what to do, but we can all see the players pressing too much and trying to "be the one who is the hero." The problem is that the more they press, the worse it gets! Look at Pudge, Sheff, Dontrelle, Cabrera and even Granderson! All great players who are mentally letting the pressure make matters worse! And now Bondo! You know he is going through hell, mentally, with all the worries this physical problem is bringing on him and his family! Luckily they found the clot, before it broke loose and would have killed him! He is lucky to have Kenny on his team, to help show him the positive side to finding this problem that has hampered Bondo for two years now. Remember the "tired arm problem" last year. It was probably the rib pressing on the nerve then!

| 06/11/2008 7:51 PM ET Bonderman to be examined next week Specialist to determine whether Tigers starter needs surgery By Jason Beck / MLB.com
DETROIT -- Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman will be examined by a specialist next week to determine the cause of the blood clot that knocked him out of action last weekend.
Dr. Greg Pearl, the specialist who operated on fellow Tigers pitcher Kenny Rogers to repair blood vessels in his shoulder last year, will examine Bonderman next Tuesday at his office in Dallas. If he determines that the blockage was caused by a rib, as was initially suspect, that could require removing the rib in a surgery that would end Bonderman's season.
Pearl performed a similar procedure on Rogers to remove a rib when he had the same problem in 2001.
Bonderman went on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday after seeing team doctors on Friday complaining about a heavy arm. He was admitted to the Detroit Medical Center Friday night to dissolve the clot from the axillary vein in the front of his throwing shoulder. The clot was a symptom of thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition in which the vein is compressed. Bonderman underwent a procedure to dissolve the clot on Friday night, then underwent an angioplasty to clear the vein on Saturday morning.

| 06/17/2008 11:12 PM ET Bonderman scheduled for surgery Shoulder procedure could end season for Tigers right-hander By Jason Beck / MLB.com
SAN FRANCISCO -- Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman will undergo potentially season-ending surgery on June 30 to address the thoracic outlet syndrome that landed him on the disabled list a week and a half ago.
Dr. Greg Pearl, the specialist who operated on fellow Tigers pitcher Kenny Rogers for his circulatory problems in 2001 and 2007, examined Bonderman on Tuesday in Dallas. He confirmed the initial suspicions of Tigers medical officials that surgery would be necessary, and he'll perform the procedure.
No additional specifics were immediately available, including whether the surgery would involve removing a rib. That was the body part that was restricting the arteries in Rogers' throwing shoulder back in 2001, and it was also a possible cause for the same issues in Bonderman's shoulder. The Tigers will wait until after the surgery to give a timetable for how long Bonderman will miss, but it was initially expected that if surgery were needed, he would likely miss the rest of the season.
Team doctors diagnosed Bonderman with the condition on June 6 after he complained to team athletic trainers about a heavy shoulder. He underwent a thrombylosis that night to dissolve buildup in the artery, followed by an angioplasty the next day to clear it.
