Elimination number remains at one. They must win out, the Red Sux must lose out, and then they must beat the Red Sux again in a one-game playoff. Otherwise they're dead as their stadium.

On second thought, I think it'd be funny if they won out and the Sux lost out and then the Yankees lost the one-game playoff :haha:

Mike Mussina gets the win and now has 19. He has one more start left this season...at Fenway Park. Although it shouldn't be this way, that start is the most important of his career in terms of individual stuff. He has never won a Cy Young (and never will as he won't this year and it's unlikely he'll ever be better than this year), and he has never won 20 games. HOF voters are very unlikely to reward him with the HOF if that stays the same and this year is probably his last shot at 20 wins. He's still got a decent shot at 300 wins, but he's old so he could fall apart quickly and not get there.

It's pretty simple - if he wins his last start he's a lock for the HOF. If he doesn't it'll probably be 50:50 at best.

GO MUSSINA (and therefore go Yankees ).

Mussina will be worse. Pettitte will be worse. Hughes will probably be better. The rest of the rotation will be about the same.

In the bullpen, Rivera will be worse, the rest won't be much different.

In the infield, Posada (if healthy) will be worse as will Giambi and Jeter and probably Rodriguez. Cano can possibly improve.

Matsui isn't getting any younger and if Abreu is still there I see no reason why he'll be better. Cabrera will continue to improve.

Basically a lot of aging veterans will continue to decline and there aren't many young players to make up for the old players.

As for the rest of the division, the Orioles will continue to be terrible, the Blue Jays will probably be about the same (especially since Burnett is probably leaving). The Rays will get better (although they've over performed a ton this year so their record might actually be worse) and the Red Sox may or may not be better/worse.

That's a good point. Teixeira is a free-agent to-be....I could see him on the Yankees. Sabathia, too. I was just assuming nothing changes....with the Yankees that's a pretty dumb assumption.
