Tigers-Yankees rainout rescheduled
Postponed May 11 game will be played Sept. 1 in Detroit

DETROIT -- The Tigers will be playing on Labor Day, after all. They'll make up their rained-out game against the Yankees from last homestand on Monday, Sept. 1 at 1:05 p.m. ET at Comerica Park.

The game was originally scheduled for May 11 before an afternoon of steady rains across southeastern Michigan forced a postponement. Since the weekend series marked the only scheduled visit from the Yankees this season, the game had to be made up on a common off-day, of which there were few. Given the choice of two dates in September, the teams chose Sept. 1.

The makeup date ends up being rather convenient for the Tigers, since the off-day fell in the middle of a homestand. The game will be part of what becomes a 10-game, 11-day stretch at Comerica that includes three-game series against the Indians, Royals and Angels. The Yankees, meanwhile, will make a one-day stop in Detroit on their way from New York to Tampa Bay.
