| Before you drink that antifreeze, consider this:
The 1899 Cleveland Spiders were bad, really bad... They finished an all-time ML worst 20-134 (.130) They lost 40 of their last 41 games They finished 84 games out of first They finished 35 games out of second to last (11th) They were so bad teams refused to travel to their park and they played the final 36 games on the road losing 35 They lost 109 games on the road that year They were 11-109 (.092) on the road They were 9-25 (.265) at home Jim Hughey (4-30) and Charlie Knepper (4-22) tied for the team lead in wins. They averaged 179 fans for their home games Their best winning streak of the season was 2 games, they did that once (5/20 and 5/21)
Even we aren't that bad!

| Baseball was really screwed up back then. The owner of the Spiders purchased the St. Louis Browns and therefore owned two teams (this was allowed back then). He decided baseball would be more profitable in St. Louis so he traded all the good players on Cleveland (Cy Young, etc.) to St. Louis for garbage. If a Spider started to play well he was shipped to St. Louis. His superteam in St. Louis (arrogantly renamed the perfectos) didn't win the pennant; however.
As for the Spiders, they started 8-30 before their manager was fired and sent to St. Louis. All things considered 8-30 wasn't too bad as they finished 12-104.
