| What ur opinion on dh rule? I think its stupid. Pitchers need to bat like in old days and nl. I apploud leyland for using sheff in OF. Guys making millions should do more than just hiting. If they cant play field they need retire. Pitchers can bat look Micah Owings. Average .417 1 homerun. 4 homerun last year. He could prolly bat every day and b good. Y only do half job? Thoughts. |

| I am someone who sort of likes to see the pitchers have to bat. Pitchers, up until American League pro ball have to bat!
I see Leland's point that many pitchers get injured batting, when they try to hit a long ball, but they don't HAVE to do that. 99% of the balls hit are not homers, they are bloop singles or doubles.
In the old days, even M. Lolich helped win a world series game with a hit! When they have to do it all the time, there is little chance of getting hurt. They actually made it more dangerous by not having it in the AL but then make our pitchers bat in inter-league play.
I was hoping Willis was no longer injured during inter-league play... he is a great batter! Better than many of our regular guys, like ummmm Inge?!? Dontrelle has a great batting average, and has even hit home runs! He had a .286 batting ave, and a .508 SLG ave in 2007! That included 2 doubles, 3 triples and 2 homers! Not bad for someone who hit only one day out of 5 or 6!
The Marlins Mark Hendrickson has a .235 batting ave., St. Louis Cardinals pitcher B. Looper actually has his TEAMS highest batting average of .357 and SLG ave of .500! So don't tell me pitchers can't hit!

| I would rather see the pitchers bat; I would not mind the DH if both leagues had it, but they don't! | |

| I have found that I love watching the pitchers bat in the NL games. So much more fun and exciting games. Lot's more strategy and I love small ball so it's just plain more fun. Up until this year I thought the dh rule was fine, and then I started watching the NL... get rid of the DH! | |

| the DH! Baseball is two teams of nine, not two teams of eight and two halves. Stupid story time...when I was really little and voting for the All-Star team at Dodger Stadium I thought DH stood for disabled hitter and there were guys in wheel chairs or something | |

| I dunno, I kinda like the DH, for when your watching at home, (not applying to Gs, of course) and the game is boring, the pitcher comes up and you can almost know he wont get a hit. It makes the game more boring. So I guess I would say keep the DH
By the way, It seems like maggsbgone is the one who started this thread.

| But pitchers do get hits! Teams often pitch around or intentionally walk the 8th hitter to get to the pitcher but then sometimes the pitchers get hits ruining the plan. | |

It's true! One time they walked the 8th hitter to get to Miller and then with the bases loaded, he got an RBI I nearly fell down.

| I like when pitchers run too!
Though a lot times they wear jackets while on the bases.
I know they trying to keep their arms warm; but it looks silly

But they do that in Houston or Arizona when it is 85 degrees or hotter out

Greg Maddux pinch runs all the time. The Padres have used him as a PR this year already. Maddux is the first pitcher since Bob Gibson to steal 10 bases in his career. In fact, Greg Maddux's ML debut wasn't as a pitcher, but rather a pinch runner. Is there anything Maddux can't do? He's already 1% of the way to the 500 HR club - 5 down, 495 to go

I'm sorry, but the pitchers actually DOING something other than sitting on the bench waiting for their 5th day start is just plain fun.
