Here is a picture of my new puppy. His name is GIBSON. Yes, Kirk Gibson. My brother named him. I wandered into a pet shop in January and found Gibson. After learning that he had been in the pet shop since AUGUST, I had to get him. He was on sale. Yup, the bargain bin. I think he waited for me to find him. He is such a good puppy. I love him madly.

Humane societies and rescue groups. Most pet shops profit off the puppy mill trade.

We got all our dogs at pet shops. We didn't get any of our cats at pet shops though - stray cats show up at our house every now and then.

We got one of out dogs from the petshop after a customer dropped the puppy and she broke her leg. They spent lots of money and time getting the puppy healed. When we came back from vacation and saw the little angel was still there we were told the story. They offered her to us at a loss, since nobody wanted to purchase a 6 month old puppy (they just want the cute 8-14 week olds ), so we had them give us a guarentee allowing us to have her checked out at our vet to see if she healed correctly. He said she wes great, so we rescued her from there.

I agree, either get the dogs from the shelters or an individual owner. If you have to have a purebred dog, we got our last one from a show dog breeder, who home raised her dogs. and they will sell their breeder dogs at a great discount.

One of my dogs, Joey, we got from people who were trying to get rid of them. They were going to put them in a bag and throw them in a river if someone didn't take them, so we got her.

and the other dog we got from someone else who was trying to get rid of them... although they weren't going to harm them if they didn't.

They outta put a bag on them and throw them in the river and see how they like it

Same here...a few found in the road already hit by cars, a few castoffs from acquaintances, and a few from the local humane society.
