Bazardo out, lefty Rapada called up

CHICAGO – Less than 24 hours after a lopsided loss in Boston, the Tigers made the first of what could be multiple changes to their bullpen.

The contract of reliever Yorman Bazardo was designated for assignment on Friday, and the team recalled left-hander Clay Rapada from Triple-A Toledo.

Bazardo was one of three Detroit relievers to pitch in Thursday’s loss to the Red Sox. He allowed four earned runs and walked two batters in one inning.

Rapada will provide Tigers manager Jim Leyland with a second left-handed option out of the bullpen, along with Bobby Seay.

Bazardo clears waivers

CLEVELAND -- Right-handed relief pitcher Yorman Bazardo has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the Toledo Mud Hens.

Bazardo was designated for assignment last week when the Tigers called up left-hander Clay Rapada from Toledo.

Bazardo struggled in limited action this season, allowing eight runs on seven hits and five walks in only three innings of action.

It was brutal and he pretty much went downhill after that.

Much better so far this year....
