PUDGE PACKING A PUNCH: Ivan Rodriguez has hit safely in each of his last seven games, including homering in four of the games. During the seven-game stretch, he is batting .684 (13x19) with two doubles and five home runs. Rodriguez is currently leading the Grapefruit League with six home runs this spring.

POLANCO’S STREAK: Placido Polanco singled yesterday versus the Rays and he has now hit safely in each of his last 13 games this spring. During the 13-game hitting streak, he is hitting .500 (19x38). Polanco is currently second in the Grapefruit League with a .475 batting average and 19 hits.

HOMER HAPPY: The Tigers connected for two home runs yesterday and in 11 games dating back to March 7, the club has belted 22 home runs.

TIGERS FALL TO REDS: The Tigers suffered a 5-3 loss to the Reds yesterday afternoon. Miguel Cabrera singled and drove in two runs for Detroit, while Carlos Guillen added a single and double. Jacque Jones finished with a single and an RBI.

TIGERS TRIM NINE FROM MAJOR LEAGUE CAMP: The Tigers today optioned the contracts of righthanded pitcher Virgil Vasquez and outfielder Brent Clevlen to Triple A Toledo. Additionally, the club assigned righthanded pitchers Freddy Dolsi, Chris Lambert and Preston Larrison, catchers Max St. Pierre and Nick Trzesniak and infielders Michael Hollimon and Scott
Sizemore to minor league camp. Following today’s roster moves, 37 players remain in major league camp.

WHITECAPS TO RECEIVE CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS: Prior to this afternoon’s game against Washington, Whitecaps Chief Executive Officer/Managing Partner Lew Chamberlin will present the members of the 2007 West Michigan club with their Midwest League championship rings.

MINOR LEAGUERS TO BE HONORED: Prior to this afternoon’s game against Washington, all of the Tigers 2007 minor league award winners will be honored in a ceremony on the field. The organization’s minor league player and pitcher of the year, Gold Glove winners and each minor league team’s player and pitcher of the year are among those to be honored.

ROBERTSON TO START MINOR LEAGUE GAME: Nate Robertson is slated to start in a minor league game tomorrow in Lakeland at 1:00 p.m.

BONDERMAN’S MINOR LEAGUE OUTING: Jeremy Bonderman pitched for Triple A Toledo against Double A Erie in an intersquad game yesterday. He worked seven shutout innings, fanning four batters and allowing five hits and two walks. Bonderman threw 71 pitches in the outing.

During the 11-game stretch, he is batting .469 (15x32) with two doubles and six home runs. Rodriguez is currently leading the Grapefruit League with seven home runs this spring.

POLANCO’S PRODUCTION: Placido Polanco has hit safely in 16 of his 18 games during Grapefruit League action this spring,
batting .453 (24x53). He is currently second in the Grapefruit League with a .453 batting average and 24 hits, while he is fifth with a .491 on-base percentage.

CLOSING IN ON A NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD: Including the game against Florida Southern College, the Tigers have drawn 117,294 fans to Joker Marchant Stadium this spring. With 4,781 fans today, the club will surpass the spring attendance record at Joker Marchant Stadium of 122,074 established in 2007 (includes the game against Florida Southern College).

During the 13-game stretch, he is batting .459 (17x37) with two doubles and seven home runs. Rodriguez is currently leading the Grapefruit League with eight home runs this spring.

POLANCO’S PRODUCTION: Placido Polanco has hit safely in 18 of his 20 games during Grapefruit League action this spring, batting .426 (26x61). He is currently tied for third in the Grapefruit League with 26 hits, while he is fourth with a .426 batting average and 10th with a .462 on-base percentage and .656 slugging percentage.

CHECKING THE LEADER BOARDS: Carlos Guillen is tied for third in the Grapefruit League with five home runs, while Marcus Thames is tied for eighth with four home runs. Ivan Rodriguez is leading the league with an .849 slugging percentage, while he is fourth with 45 total bases.
