| Has anyone seen this or know anything about it? I was watching Citizen Kane and for some strange reason I though of this movie. The only thing I know about it is it's a movie and I think it's based on a book. I'm going to watch it within the next 24 hours if all goes well. | |

| The book was written by Anthony Burgess and is very very good. I have never seen the movie, but the book is pretty violent and just plain weird, I had to read it a few times to fully "get" it. I have this movie, maybe I'll watch it. | |

Watch it tomorrow at exactly 12:10 PM. I plan on watching it 10 minutes after I wake up which would be 9:10 AM. I'm glad the book doesn't suck. The American Film Institute has ranked this as high as the 46th best film of all-time for whatever that's worth.

| As one commentator said: - Quote :
- It's hard to judge a film such as this. Its cold and hard, yet can be exhilarating and sarcastic. It can be average, yet it can be visionary. Exploitive? Satirical? Too many questions to consider when one watches this film.
Even after 34 years, this film still speaks volumes about our current culture, which many ideals are ringing true today. The younger generations are out of control due to lack of parental control, junk culture is becoming commonplace, violence is desensitizing the masses, and we all seem to be enjoying the ride on the way down. It's very difficult to find movies which can make such startling commentary, yet hold on to such accusations for an extended period of time. Nowadays, films are focused-grouped to death, conformity is more powerful than artistry, and money is far more important than quality. Kubrick took a huge leap with this film, challenging society to take a hard look at itself. Unfortunately, society wasn't ready for this film, which is why it is revered now more than ever.

Sounds interesting. I'm going to watch in 15 minutes I think

| I just watched A Clockwork OrangeUmm....well I don't even know what to say. That was the most bizarre movie I've ever seen so writing an review is very difficult. Before I even start the review, can anyone explain to me what the heck the title has to do with the movie itself. I don't get it. Now, the review... First of all, this movie is rated R and for good reason. In fact, it was originally rated the now-defunct X. That rating does not imply pornography and this film, for the most part, is not pornography. I don't really understand the purpose of this film at all and the ending left me very confused. Reading some analyses has helped but I won't bother describing them here. The movie is British which didn't help any - their accents were at times difficult to comprehend and some of their speech is odd by American standards - I had to look up fortnight (14 days) just to know what it meant. To give an idea of how bizarre this movie is, here's the first line from wikipedia's description of its plot: - Quote :
- The film follows the life of a teenage boy named Alex DeLarge, whose pleasures are classical music (most especially Beethoven), rape, and ultraviolence.
Here's pretty much the opening shot of the film: - Spoiler:
Also, I'm not normally all that squeamish but there's something about eyes - here's a shot from around the middle of the movie...this goes on for like 10 minutes with the guy screaming getting eye drops and close ups of his eye: - Spoiler:
All in all, this movie is very strange and if you're at all squeamish or unsure of whether or not you want to see an R-rated movie, DO NOT watch this. There's plenty of depictions of rape scenes which are fairly graphic so you've been warned. Lastly...for all you perverted women out there...I've never seen so much male nudity in a movie before For some reason I'll say this movie wasn't too bad although I'm not really sure why: 81/100 B-UP NEXT: Soylent Green. I probably won't be able to watch for a couple days though due to school/finals.

| Kubricks finest film. Banned in America shortly after its initial release.....
Very violent and disturbing but it is offset by the music of Beethoven!!

| We used to screen movies in the Science building lecture hall while I was at EMU.
I remember a near riot breaking out after a showing of the controversial film, "Warriors".

Hmm....tough call. My first reaction was I didn't care for this film, but after thinking about it for a few months, I could make that argument. Paths of Glory, The Shining, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are also in the running.

| Like I said before, I am a big fan. I think all of his movies (even Dr. Strangelove) were brilliant.
He should have made more films.....well, maybe not "Eyes Wide Shut", but I adored that irritating single-note Piano soundtrack!!

It's a great movie and IMDb.com says it's his best movie. You don't have to be ashamed to say it's great! I think the message in that film was easier to pick up than any of his other films which can at times be pretty insane.
