TIGERS TRIM 12 PLAYERS FROM MAJOR LEAGUE CAMP: The Tigers today optioned the contracts of righthanded pitcher Armando Galarraga and lefthanded pitcher Macay McBride to Triple A Toledo and

righthanded pitcher Rick Porcello to Single A Lakeland.

Additionally, the club assigned righthanded pitcher Jeff Gerbe, catchers Joe Bowen, Dusty Ryan and James Skelton, infielders Jeff Larish and Danny Worth and outfielders Matt Joyce, Wilkin Ramirez and Clete Thomas to minor league camp.

Following today’s roster moves, 46 players remain in major league camp.


TIGERS WIN TWO YESTERDAY: The Tigers won both ends of a split squad yesterday afternoon, defeating the Reds 5-4
and the Indians 4-2 in 10 innings.

Ivan Rodriguez, Brent Clevlen, Carlos Guillen and Scott Sizemore all homered for the Tigers against the Reds. Jeff Larish led the Tigers against the Indians, finishing with two hits and three RBI.


STELLAR STARTING: Through the club’s first 16 games of the Grapefruit League schedule, Tigers starting pitchers have combined to compile a 5-0 record and 2.32 ERA (42.2IP/11ER). Detroit’s starters have registered 30 strikeouts, while allowing 37 hits and 12 walks.


TIGERS AMONG LEADERS IN ERA: Through the first 16 games of the club’s Grapefruit League schedule, Tigers pitchers have compiled a 3.69 ERA. The 3.69 ERA is second among all American League clubs so far this spring.


LEADERS AT THE PLATE: Carlos Guillen and Ivan Rodriguez are tied for the lead in the Grapefruit League with four home runs so far this spring, while Curtis Granderson and Marcus Thames are tied for eighth with two home runs. Guillen is tied for second in the league with 23 total bases, while Rodriguez is tied for fourth with 22 total bases. Placido Polanco is tied for sixth in the league with 12 hits, while Brent Clevlen is tied for ninth with 11 hits.

So Porcello will (likely) start at A Lakeland it seems.

He will be with Kyle Sleeth, Dusty Ryan, Cale Iorg and playing at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Andy Barkett has recently been promoted to the manager position of the Flying Tigers. Larry Herndon (hitting coach), Joe Coleman (pitching coach), and Dustin Campbell (trainer)

I like it that Coleman will be his pitching coach.

Bet he will not be there long though before he moves to AA.

No real surprises with those cuts, I am going to the game tomorrow...meeting lap and trinita there!!
