Robertson in midseason form vs. Bucs
Left-hander stymies Pirates for four scoreless innings

TIGERS 9, PIRATES 7
at Lakeland, Fla.
Sunday, March 9

Pirates at the plate: Andrew McCutchen, who grew up in nearby Lake Wales, Fla., put the Pirates on the scoreboard when he singled in Neil Walker in the sixth. Doug Mientkiewicz doubled twice, including a ninth-inning double that started a four-run Pirates rally. Outfielder Kevin Thompson knocked a two-run double to tie the game in the ninth before catcher Raul Chavez hit a 10th-inning home run that gave the Pirates a short-lived lead.

Tigers at the plate: Carlos Guillen hit his team-leading third home run of the spring leading off the sixth inning after tripling in a run in the fourth. Miguel Cabrera broke out of his early spring slump with a line-drive double to the center-field fence. Freddy Guzman was the hero, though, with a walk-off, three-run homer in the 10th.

Pirates on the mound: Phil Dumatrait's solid spring continued for the first couple of innings before giving up three runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth. Three of those runs were earned on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Guillen's home run was Bryan Bullington's only hit allowed in two innings of relief.

Tigers on the mound: Nate Robertson's third outing of the spring featured four scoreless innings in which he allowed one hit and struck out four. Aquilino Lopez's scoreless spring continued with one inning of work on two strikeouts. Todd Jones struggled in the ninth, allowing four runs that tied the score at 6.

Grapefruit League records: Tigers 7-5-1, Pirates 3-8.

Up next: The Tigers travel to Florida's Atlantic coast for the first time this spring when they visit the Nationals at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla. Dontrelle Willis will make his third start of the spring opposite Matt Maloney. Game time is 1:05 p.m. ET.

The Pirates will be on MLB.TV on Monday when they host the Phillies at 1:05 p.m. ET at McKechnie Field. Ian Snell will make his third start of the spring opposite Brett Myers. Byung-Hyun Kim, Evan Meek, Casey Fossum, Mike Thompson and Marino Salas are also slated to pitch.
