PostSubject: LAST GAME PICS OF TIGER STADIUM   Thu Jun 12, 2008 6:29 pm

The last game at Tiger Stadium

The Detroit News

Tigers groundskeeper Heather Nabozny wets down the field before the start of the Monday's final game.

A Tigers fan leans over the rail to get a souvenir spoonful of dirt
from the right field foul territory warning track before the final game.

Rachel Smith, 10, of Madison Heights, yawns as she waits for the gates
to open at Tiger Stadium Monday. Rachel arrived at the stadium at 9
a.m. with her family for a chance to be first in line.

Players cheer for former Detroit Tiger shortshop and one-time Detroit
city councilman Billy Rogell, who threw out the first pitch prior to
the final game.

The first pitch of the final game.

This photo shows both Tiger Stadium (bottom) and Comerica Park at the start of the final game.

Gov. Engler and wife Michelle were among the celebrities in the stands.

Luis Polonia is congratulated after he hits a home run to lead off the Tigers' first inning.

Mr. and Mrs. Lou Whitaker were on hand for the game.

Former Tigers pitcher Jack Morris has a salute for the old ballpark.

Former Tigers Tom Brookens and Gates Brown.

Ex-Tigers Dave Bergman and Dick Tracewski.

Kansas City Royals right fielder Jermaine Dye makes the last
spectacular play in the old ballpark as he makes a diving catch of a
pop foul by Tony Clark in the seventh inning.

The scoreboard tells only part of the story of the last baseball game at Tiger Stadium.

Tigers fan Doug Pettinga of Troy says farewell to the stadium.

At a ceremony following the game Tigers from the '30s through the '90s
were introduced to the fans, most of whom couldn't bring themselves to
leave the old ballpark. First out of the tunnel was Mark Fydrich, who
headed directly to the pitchers mound where he filled a plastic bag
with souvenir dirt.

Mickey Lolich, hero of the 1968 World Series victory over the St. Louis
Cardinals, is cheered on by former Tigers second baseman Dick
McAulliffe.

The Tigers' legendary doubleplay combination, Alan Trammell and Lou
Whitaker, burst out of the tunnel together and then headed to second
base.

Mark Fydrich gets a hug from Dick McAuliffe.

Kirk Gibson acknowledges cheers from the fans.

Todd Jones reacts after striking out Kansas City's Carlos Beltran for the last out ever at Tiger Stadium.

A member of the grounds crew carries homeplate from Tiger Stadium to its new home at Comerica Park.

Some of the fans dressed for the occasion, others just wanted to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy Corktown.

After the flag was lowered for the last time from the stadium's pole,
it was passed from former Tiger to former Tiger, until Earl Wilson,
left, handed it to Eldon Auker, who pitched for the team in the 1930s.
Auker then presented it to current Tiger Brad Ausmus.

Willie Horton was filled with emotion to be back in Tiger Stadium.

Flashbulbs go off around the ballpark as Tigers pitcher Todd Jones
throws the final pitch, striking out Carlos Beltran for the final out
at Tiger Stadium.

The final farewell

You may want to save some of these pics to your computer or servimg if you want to keep them. They are hosted at the Det News and should be available, but you never know when they will not be available anymore.

It is now close to the level designated for keeping. 3 light standards left. It will get down to two.
