Thursday, Feb. 28 Tigers at the plate: Curtis Granderson hit a two-run home run and Magglio Ordonez contributed two hits, including a two-run double. Ivan Rodriguez went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Blue Jays at the plate: Rod Barajas doubled and scored Toronto's lone run. Buck Coats' single off Macay McBride in the fourth and a singles by Reed Johnson and Joe Inglett were the only other hits by the Blue Jays. Tigers on the mound: Virgil Vasquez, likely ticketed for Triple-A Toledo, pitched two hitless innings, walking one. Veteran right-hander Matt Mantei, seeking to earn a spot in the bullpen, allowed a pair of walks in one inning of work. Blue Jays on the mound: Jesse Litsch and Gustavo Chacin, two of the candidates for the fifth spot in the rotation, both worked against the Tigers. Litsch started and gave up four runs on four hits in two innings. Chacin allowed a base hit to Ordonez, but retired Ivan Rodriguez, Miguel Cabrera and struck out Carlos Guillen in a scoreless third. Grapefruit League record: Tigers 2-0, Blue Jays 0-1. Up next: The Tigers will tangle with Toronto for the second game in a row Friday at 1:05 p.m. ET when the two teams meet in Dunedin, Fla. Right-hander Justin Verlander will start for the Tigers, with Nate Robertson, Preston Larrison, Rick Porcello, Franis Beltran and Freddy Dolsi also making the trip. Roy Halladay is Toronto's scheduled starter Friday, with Jason Frasor, Brian Wolfe, Jeremy Accardo, Brian Tallet, Scott Downs, Brandon League and Kane Davis also expected to see action.
