ALLEN PARK, MICH.(AP) —Matt Stafford has won the Detroit Lions’ starting quarterback job.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz told his team Monday morning that the No. 1 overall pick in April’s draft would start Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Stafford had been battling veteran Daunte Culpepper(notes) for the position, and Schwartz stressed it had been a case of Stafford winning the job instead of Culpepper losing it.

The Lions are coming off the first 0-16 season in NFL history.

I dont think this is a good choice by the Lions........just because it worked with the Falcons and Ravens last year doesnt mean it can work again with the Lions

Lions are 13 point underdogs so apparently I'm implying you should bet on the Lions I probably should rethink my prediction.

I'll give him two seasons and if he doesnt win at least 5 games both seasons it'll be a complete failure drafting him

He really is..........they say Brady and Manning are the only "elite" QBs in the league but I think Brees should be in that category too

For real, he's had 2 PHENOMINAL seasons the last 2 years.

Yeah they probably dont consider him elite since the Saints havent been so great since Bush's rookie season when they were so close to the Super Bowl

Well, that shouldn't be taken into consideration, but is.

He doesn't have the hottest receving core. Marques Colsten got doubled up frequently and Shockey wasn't doing that great and was injured for some time.

Bush should be getting better these next few years and may just blossom soon.

Well Colston has been injured the last two seasons and hopefully can return back to form from his rookie season. Shockey is still a beast and could help that offense like Tony Gonzalez will for the Falcons this year.

Bush should get better but who knows.........he has to get healthy first

Bush and Leinart both were made out to be more than what they are.

People expected too much and "didn't get enough," even when they were playing good for their age.

Yeah and it wasnt just them..........Vince Young was made out to be the next Mike Vick and that hasnt happened. The '06 Draft Class was most overhyped class.........Bush, Leinart, Young, Hawk, Ferguson, Donte Whitner, Kamerion Wimbley. These guys were overhyped way too much and they have done squat for the league or their teams

Hawk did well, Wimbley did nicely too.

They have done well over squat.

Hawk hasnt made a Pro Bowl hasnt been in consideration for DPOY and Wimbley had a great rookie season and hasnt done much since then.

These guys were top draft picks and look at James Harrison, an undrafted guy who was on the practice squad for 5 years then finally had an opportunity and made the Pro Bowl the last 2 years, DPOY last season and made a huge play in the Super Bowl

AJ Hawk has done well, probably more underrated than most. Not like Demeco Ryans underrated, but seriously.

He has been pretty good over 300 Tackles and 7.5 sacks along 3 INTs through his 1st three seasons with Green Bay.
