Discuss everything music related from 1970-1979
This decade had plenty of good music but things really fell apart at the end and there's been little recovery since. Be very careful when listening to 1970s music...you don't want to listen to disco!

I'll start out with some of the newest songs I've downloaded. These aren't the best example of 1970s music...that'll come later.
1970 - Domino - Van Morrison
1970 - Moondance - Van Morrison

All this Neil Young and CSNY talk (the Y is for the same Neil Young) got me thinking of a few other (better) songs....
1971 - Heart of Gold - Neil Young
1970 - Ohio - CSNY
For a cool song that just missed the 1970s (September, 1969) by CSN (CSNY without Neil Young) head over to the 1960s thread and look for Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.

1972 - Ventura Highway - America
For those that listen to Janet Jackson, the intro to this should sound pretty familiar. Contrary to what today's youth think, America DID NOT rip this off from her - it's the other way around! This song is far better than Jackson's completely unrelated song ("Someone to Call My Lover")
1975 - Sister Golden Hair - America
WARNING: The word "damn" is used in the first few seconds...

While we're discussing America (who is a British band) we probably should discuss their other #1 song (Sister Golden Hair being the other) which is probably their most famous song:
1972 - Horse With No Name - America

I take it you aren't an America fan! What about Van Morrison, CSNY/CSN/Neil Young?
I guess if don't like 1 you wouldn't like the other 2 and vice-versa...they're basically the same thing.
Maybe not though - I like CSNY, Y (young), but I can't even name a single song by Crosby or Stills or Nash (I'm pretty sure they all have solo stuff, too...they're much less famous than Neil Young though. I don't even know their first names! One is Stephen though and I'm pretty sure it isn't Stephen Crosby).
EDIT: Their names are Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and Graham Nash.
EDIT2: More info:
David Crosby is a guitarist, did some solo work, and was a founding member of The Byrds and CSNY. He's in the Rock and Roll HOF.
Stephen Stills did some solo work, was a guitarist and is most known for his work in CSNY and Buffalo Springfield (with Neil Young). Rolling Stone said he's the 28th greatest guitarist of all-time.
Graham Nash is a singer-songwriter and photographer best known for his work with The Hollies and CSNY.

They're all from previous bands of the 60s. One of them (I want to say Crosby) is from the Birds.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that you already found that out.

1973 - Ramblin' Man - The Allman Brothers Band
Instrumentals don't always suck: 1973 - Jessica - The Allman Brother Band
1973 - Wasted Words - Wasted Words

1974 - One of These Nights - The Eagles (did we already determine this should be Inge's batting song?)
Spoiler:
One of these nights One of these crazy old nights We're gonna find out Pretty mama What turns on your lights The full moon is calling The fever is high And the wicked wind whispers And moans
You got your demons You got desires Well, I got a few of my own
Oo, someone to be kind to in Between the dark and the light Oo, coming right behind you Swear I'm gonna find you One of these nights
One of these dreams One of these lost and lonely dreams We're gonna find one One that really screams
I've been searching for the daughter Of the devil himself I've been searching for an angel in white I've been waiting for a woman who's a little Of both And I can feel her but she's nowhere In sight
Oo, loneliness will blind you In between the wrong and the right Oo, coming right behind you Swear I'm gonna find you One of these nights
One of these nights In between the dark and the light Coming right behind you Swear I'm gonna find you Get 'ya baby one of these nights One of these nights One of these nights I can feel it I can feel it One of these nights Coming right behind you Swear I'm gonna find you now One of these nights..etc....

1975 - Take it to the Limit - The Eagles
Gilmore Girls, again?
Spoiler:
All alone at the end of the of the evening And the bright lights have faded to blue I was thinking ’bout a woman who might have Loved me and I never knew You know I’ve always been a dreamer (spent my life running ’round) And it’s so hard to change (can’t seem to settle down) But the dreams I’ve seen lately Keep on turning out and burning out And turning out the same
So put me on a highway And show me a sign And take it to the limit one more time
You can spend all your time making money You can spend all your love making time If it all fell to pieces tomorrow Would you still be mine?
And when you’re looking for your freedom (nobody seems to care) And you can’t find the door (can’t find it anywhere) When there’s nothing to believe in Still you’re coming back, you’re running back You’re coming back for more
So put me on a highway And show me a sign And take it to the limit one more time
Take it to the limit Take it to the limit Take it to the limit one more time

1975 - Lying Eyes - The Eagles
Spoiler:
City girls just seem to find out early How to open doors with just a smile A rich old man And she won't have to worry She'll dress up all in lace and go in style
Late at night a big old house gets lonely I guess ev'ry form of refuge has its price And it breaks her heart to think her love is Only given to a man with hands as cold as ice
So she tells him she must go out for the evening To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin' She is headed for the cheatin' side of town
You can't hide your lyin' eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't no way to hide your lyin eyes
On the other side of town a boy is waiting with fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal She drives on through the nice anticipating 'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel
She rushes to his arms, They fall together She whispers that it's only for awhile She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever She pulls away and leaves him with a smile
You can't hide your lyin' eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't no way to hide you lyin' eyes
She gets up and pours herself a strong one And stares out at the stars up in the sky Another night, it's gonna be a long one She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry
She wonders how it ever got this crazy She thinks about a boy she knew in school Did she get tired or did she just get lazy? She's so far gone she feels just like a fool
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things You set it up so well, so carefully Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things You're still the same old girl you used to be
You can't hide your lyin eyes And your smile is a thin disguise I thought by now you'd realize There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

1977 - Life in the Fast Lane - The Eagles
Spoiler:
He was a hard-headed man He was brutally handsome, and she was terminally pretty She held him up, and he held her for ransom in the heart of the cold, cold city He had a nasty reputation as a cruel dude They said he was ruthless, they said he was crude They had one thing in common, they were good in bed She'd say, 'Faster, faster. The lights are turnin' red." Life in the fast lane Surely make you lose your mind, mm Are you with me so far?
Eager for action and hot for the game The coming attraction, the drop of a name They knew all the right people, they took all the right pills They threw outrageous parties, they paid heavenly bills There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face She pretended not to notice, she was caught up in the race
Out every evening, until it was light He was too tired to make it, she was too tired to fight about it
Life in the fast lane Surely make you lose your mind Life in the fast lane, everything all the time Life in the fast lane, uh huh Blowin' and burnin', blinded by thirst They didn't see the stop sign, took a turn for the worse
She said, "Listen, baby. You can hear the engine ring. We've been up and down this highway; haven't seen a goddam thing." He said, "Call the doctor. I think I'm gonna crash." "The doctor say he's comin', but you gotta pay him cash." They went rushin' down that freeway, messed around and got lost They didn't care they were just dyin' to get off And it was life in the fast lane Life in the fast lane

I was going to add that song, but got distracted. Thanks for adding it. Take It Easy is my favorite Eagles song.
The Eagles are a strange band. I have 7 of their songs on my iPod (that's not the record, but close) yet they don't have any songs that I think are that great. I mean, I like the 7 songs I have but all 7 of them just barely make the cut (Hotel California might be good enough to where it doesn't deserve this distinction). They don't really have any no-doubt, has to be on my iPod-type songs. CCR is fairly similar. I have 13! of their songs but probably at least 10 of them are the same thing - they're good enough, but not by a whole lot.
I mean, a song has to be pretty good to make my iPod, but not all songs on my iPod are created equal. I'll use a baseball analogy (this is a baseball message board after all). Ty Cobb and Jim Bunning are both in the Hall of Fame. While the HOF makes no distinction between the two, Ty Cobb and Jim Bunning are very different - Ty Cobb is one of the greatest HOFers while Jim Bunning is just a mediocre one.

while discussing batting songs, tigersaint said Verlander should use this:
1973 - Takin' Care of Business - Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO)
I say, another one that could work for Verlander would be to stick with the same group...
1974 - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - BTO
Don't let the video fool you, this song is from 1974 not 1975.

That makes sense. I'd rather listen to CCR than the Eagles though. Both are constant in that they have a lot songs that are good to listen to, but neither have a great song. I should add some 70s CCR songs.

1970 - Who'll Stop the Rain - CCR
Spoiler:
Long as I remember the rain been comin down. Clouds of mystry pourin confusion on the ground. Good men through the ages, tryin to find the sun; And I wonder, still I wonder, wholl stop the rain.
I went down virginia, seekin shelter from the storm. Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow. Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains. And I wonder, still I wonder wholl stop the rain.
Heard the singers playin, how we cheered for more. The crowd had rushed together, tryin to keep warm. Still the rain kept pourin, fallin on my ears. And I wonder, still I wonder wholl stop the rain.
