CLEVELAND -- Mark DeRosa was acquired by the Indians on New Year's Eve. And now he's gone before the Fourth of July.

It was a short-lived tenure with the Tribe for DeRosa, who was the subject of trade rumors almost from the time he first slipped on an Indians uniform. On Saturday night, the last-place Indians, all but out of contention and getting an early jump on the summer trading season, shipped him off to the Cardinals for right-handed reliever ...

The deal, which is pending the completion of a physical examination, is expected to be announced Thursday.

Maroth Released by Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals began their off-season roster re-tooling by saying goodbye to left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth. The 30-year-old was released by the club on Tuesday.

Maroth was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in late June for a player to be named later in return compensation. That turned out to be former first-round pick, pitcher Chris Lambert.

Like Lambert, Maroth proved to be a major disappointment to the Cardinals. Overall, Maroth was 0-5 with ...

Scott Rolen is on the verge of escaping St. Louis manager Tony La Russa. Troy Glaus is on the verge of escaping the artificial turf in Toronto.

The Cardinals and Blue Jays are closing in on an exchange of their third basemen, major-league sources say, but both former All-Stars must pass physicals before a deal is completed.

Those physicals are no small issue since Rolen is coming off surgery on his right shoulder and Glaus surgery on his ...
