With less than a week until Opening Day, the Phillies released veteran outfielder Geoff Jenkins on Tuesday and have begun a pursuit of slugger Gary Sheffield, who was released earlier in the day.



The left-handed-hitting Jenkins hit .250 in 11 Grapefruit League games, with one homer and five RBIs. Last season, his lone campaign with the Phillies, Jenkins hit .246 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 115 games.

According to Dejan Kovacevic, starter Chad Durbin has reached an agreement with the Phillies.  The Bucs missed out on another targeted free agent.
