Anaheim, Calif. -- Who's on third?

That question seemed to flummox the umpire Tim McClelland on Tuesday night when two Yankees -- Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano -- arrived at the base, but not exactly on it.

The 2009 playoffs have at times been one big slapstick routine for Major League Baseball's umpires, who have executed some calls with all the clarity of Abbott and Costello. McClelland and his crew provided ...

Here's why....

While his ERA (2.78) is worse than Lee's (2.54), it's reasonably close. While he has fewer wins (20) than Lee (22) he is still a 20-game winner and that's pretty impressive. Here's what makes Halladay ...

Baseball comes together again for 9/11

Special ceremonies, charitable donations to mark occasion

By Mark Newman / MLB.com

In the book, "Love, Greg & Lauren," there are at least 13 references to baseball. It is one way Greg Manning talked to his wife, Lauren, while she was in a coma and then during her immediate recovery after suffering burns over 80 percent of her body in somehow escaping the World Trade Center that morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

Hey I have a question. The Chicago White Sox have played 25 games, while we, and a few other teams, have played 27. But yet Chicago is still in first place. How does that work? They have had less chances to lose, because they have played less games. So why should they be able to be holding the first place spot when other teams have lost more, and played more?

Why aren't catchers pitching coaches?

Backstops would seem to be natural candidates for the posts

By Alyson Footer / MLB.com

No big mystery there -- when a pitcher works to improve his game, he turns to the man hired specifically to address his questions, his needs, his strengths and weaknesses.

But most pitchers have ...

Two agents who were there confirmed this today.
