| Let's hope this loser can fall apart soon. He is currently 8-2 with a 1.32 ERA and 91 K's.
Where the hell did that come from? This guy sucks!
Lincecum is 8-1 with a 2.15 ERA and 83 K's. He ranks 2nd in all 3 triple crown categories while Volquez is first in ERA and K's. They both trail Webb's 11 wins.
BOO VOLQUEZ! _________________

| Ryan, that's cruel.
Just because, he's probably Lincey LeRoy's numero uno competitor, doesn't mean he stinks.
He cleary doesn't...I've seen him start before. _________________ Charlie Manuel on Durbin's pitching performance on July 4th: "Durbin was fantastic," Manuel said. "The role he plays in our bullpen is a big one."

| Volquez goes 4.1 IP, gives up 5 runs, strikes out nobody, and takes the loss That's the Volquez I've been waiting for. There's a reason his career ERA is close to 4.50. _________________

Gap is shrinking. Not much of a track record for Volquez either. Prior to this year he was terrible - in 3 separate seasons. The real Volquez will show up soon, especially in that ballpark. _________________

Well let's have a look... 2005: 14.21 ERA, 2.763 WHIP (to be fair it was only 12.7 IP) 2006: 7.29 ERA, 2.070 WHIP 2007: 4.50 ERA, 1.441 WHIP 2008: 2.08 ERA, 1.208 WHIP
That's quite a drastic change. His K rate is bound to drop off greatly as well.
Here's his year-by-year strikeouts per inning: 2005: 7.74 2006: 4.05 2007: 9.00 2008: 9.97
That's not too drastic a change, but still significant. It's a lot harder to go from 9 to 10 than from say 5 to 6.
Looking at his minor league stats, over 5 seasons his ERA was 3.69 mostly against AA and below.
Compare all that to Lincecum (which I'd be happy to do in the next post if you're still reading) and you'll see Lincecum's numbers have been much more consistent. _________________

2007: WHIP of 1.278 2008: WHIP of 1.240 (almost no change whatsoever - over the course of 3 CGs, that's about 1 less baserunner)
K/9IP: 2007: 9.23 2008: 9.35 Again, very little change
BB/9IP: 2007: 4.00 2008: 3.53 About 1 less walk every 2 CGs - not much change.
Now look at his minor league numbers... WHIP of 0.780 ERA of 1.00
In his brief career his stats have improved very slightly whereas those of Volquez went from poor-mediocre to brilliant almost overnight. Volquez had poor minor league stats and those of Lincecum were brilliant.
Very gradual improvement is more likely to stick than a sudden, drastic improvement. _________________

As a young player you'd only expect him to get better over time. I think he'll regress towards the mean as this year continues and improve next year.
And what's with all this love for Volquez? He's not a Tiger or anything nor has he ever been affiliated with them. I've been following Lincecum since he played college at the University of Washington - which plays in the same conference as UCLA where I go to school (I did not see him pitch in college at UCLA though ). I doubt the people here have been following Volquez since prior to his ML debut especially since he didn't go to college. _________________

| 5.1 IP, 3ER. ERA rises to 2.24 (Lincecum's is 2.38). Only 3 K's and he fails to catch Lincecum there. Lincecum's next start will allow him to increase his lead in K's and if it's good enough he can reclaim best ERA in the NL. _________________

Well if he stubs his toe and never returns again that's technically career-ending, too. It just isn't likely. _________________

| K-Rod is overrated. His team just awards him with more save opps and he has gotten most of the saves. And they were mostly 3 run saves. at least Todd Jones works with small leads and gets saves. _________________ "Contrary to what everybody else thinks, I still think I can come back and help this team."

| With all the talk of Uggla for All-Star game LVP we're forgetting about Volquez. Uggla's errors lead to 0 unearned runs. He had 2 chances to score a runner from 3rd with 1 out but didn't costing his team 2 runs. Volquez gave up 2 runs in just an inning of work late in the game snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. You can bet Lincecum would have never done that if he wasn't sick. _________________

Great Job! You cost the NL a win
I bet Lincecum was poisoned on purpose
So the AL can win and Big Money Steinbrenner and Mafia Mike Illitch can sell tickets for an extra potential WS game |

Russell Martin did it. Martin can't hit Lincecum (then again, who can?) and Martin knows that his division is so bad the Giants, despite being 15 below .500 aren't out of it (they're only 7 back). Zito will probably go from God-awful to bad, Cain will get better (he had a slow start), and Lincecum will be Lincecum. If they can stay within a few games they might pick up a bat and watch out. Martin tried to kill Lincecum but he doesn't die that easily. _________________
