White Sox designate Scott Podsednik for assignment
Add four players to roster

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have designated outfielder Scott Podsednik for assignment and have purchased the contracts of catcher Cole Armstrong and right-handed pitchers Jack Egbert, Lucas Harrell and Adam Russell.

Podsednik, 31, batted .243 (52-for-214) with two home runs, 11 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 30 runs scored with the White Sox in 2007. In three seasons with the club, Podsednik hit .270 (336-for-1,245) with five home runs, 81 RBI, 196 runs scored and 111 stolen bases. Podsednik hit a pair of home runs during the 2005 playoffs, including a game-ending shot in Game 2 of the World Series vs. Houston.

Armstrong, 24, spent most of the 2007 season with Class A Winston-Salem, hitting .288 (82-for-285) with 12 home runs and 39 RBI in 80 games. He ended the season by playing his final 22 games with Class AA Birmingham.

Egbert, 24, was named to the Southern League All-Star Team in 2007 after going 12-8 with a 3.06 ERA (55 ER/161.2 IP) and 165 strikeouts in 28 starts for Birmingham. He ranked second in the SL in strikeouts, tied for second in wins and was third in ERA and IP. Egbert limited opponents to a .232 (138-596) average, struck out 10 or more batters in a game five times and twice was named SL Pitcher of the Week.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Egbert played for Phoenix in the Arizona Fall League, going 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA (7 ER/19.1 IP) and 17 strikeouts to help the Desert Dogs win their fourth consecutive AFL championship.

Harrell, 22, missed the 2007 season following surgery on his right shoulder. He spent most of the 2006 campaign with Winston-Salem, going 7-2 with a 2.45 ERA (25 ER/91.2 IP), 70 strikeouts and a .182 opponents average in 17 starts.

Russell, 24, went 9-11 with a 4.80 ERA (74 ER/138.2 IP) and 95 strikeouts in 38 games (20 starts) with Birmingham in 2007. He began the season in the rotation but was converted to a reliever in July.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.
