Garland, D-backs agree to $6.25M deal for '09Jon Garland and the Diamondbacks have agreed on a one-year contract with a mutual option for the second year.
Garland's salary in the first year will be $6.25 million, SI.com has learned, and a buyout for the second year pushes the guaranteed money north of $7 million.
The option for 2010 is for about $10 million and mutual, meaning both sides have to agree to exercise it for it to go into effect. If either side declines the 2010 option, Garland will be paid a buyout figure that is believed to be at least $1 million.
The Arizona Republic first reported the sides were in agreement. SI.com reported last Friday that the D-backs were zeroing in on Garland.
This gives the Diamondbacks a starting rotation of Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, Doug Davis, Max Scherzer and Garland.
